Banpará transforms the reality of Bagre with credit and banking services closer to the population

For more than three years present in the city, the state bank facilitates the lives of residents and strengthens the local economy

Before the investment from the Government of Pará, the population of Bagre, in the Marajó archipelago, faced great difficulties in accessing banking services. Public servants, retirees, and small entrepreneurs had to travel for hours to Breves to resolve simple daily issues. Since 2021, this scenario has changed with the inauguration of the Banpará agency in the municipality. The arrival of the State Bank of Pará transformed the routine of Bagre residents — facilitating access to services, promoting development, and strengthening the local economy.

“Before, the population had to travel to Breves. And there, they would do their shopping. With the Banpará agency here in Bagre, money started to circulate within the city,” recalls Fábio Viegas, the general manager of the unit since its inauguration. “It became much more practical to receive salaries. We also managed to release microcredit for small entrepreneurs, not just for public servants. This changed the reality of the municipality a lot.”

The Bagre agency was the 13th inaugurated by Banpará in 2021 alone, the year in which the bank intensified its expansion throughout the interior of the State. The impact was immediate. In addition to facilitating access to essential banking services, the physical presence of the bank boosted entrepreneurship and strengthened financial inclusion policies.

Erick Patrick, a municipal school teacher and resident of Bagre for ten years, closely followed this transformation. “Before, I would lose a day of work to go to Breves. Many times, I needed to stay overnight because not everything could be resolved in one day. Today, we do everything here,” he says. For him, the arrival of Banpará represented more than convenience: it was an advancement in citizenship. “The presence of the bank in all 144 municipalities of Pará is essential. This directly contributes to local development.”

Credit that transforms lives

In addition to traditional banking services, the Bagre agency operates with specific credit lines aligned with the reality of the local population. Among them are Empodera, aimed at women entrepreneurs; Banpará Comunidade, for micro and small businesses; and Banpará Bio, intended for those working with açaí or in rural areas.

“We have a very entrepreneurial population. These credit lines help people turn dreams into reality,” explains manager Fábio Viegas. The agency also serves as a payment point for social benefits, such as Renda Pará and Vale Gás, facilitating access to public policies and strengthening the presence of the State in remote regions.

Presence that drives development

The recent visit of Governor Helder Barbalho to the municipality reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of Pará to Bagre and other cities in the interior. During the delivery of the first municipal daycare, the governor highlighted the advances in infrastructure and ongoing state investments.

“We will deliver a new daycare this year. We have ongoing works. The Julião School is in the bidding process for the construction of more than 18 classrooms. We also have the city’s waterfront, made in partnership with the State. We completed the first stage of water supply and will soon begin universalization, with treated water and sewage in all houses,” highlighted the governor.

With the Bagre agency, Banpará has advanced in its mission to be present wherever there is a resident of Pará. In September 2024, the bank reached all 144 municipalities of the State with the opening of the Aveiro agency, in the Tapajós region. In March of this year, the State also delivered the Banpará COP 30 Space, at Shopping Boulevard, focusing on sustainable financial solutions and products aimed at environmental and social development.
