In homage to World Hemophilia Day, celebrated on April 17, the Pará Hemotherapy and Hematology Center Foundation (Hemopa) held a special program in the historic center of Belém this Saturday (26) for patients, families, and the general public, featuring educational, cultural, and recreational activities.

The action began at the Hemopa Foundation headquarters, with participants gathering and departing for the Feliz Lusitânia Complex, where a guided tour of the Sacred Art and Círio Museums took place. Following that, participants engaged in a relaxation activity led by the institution's physiotherapy team, practicing Chi Kung — a Chinese technique that combines gentle movements, controlled breathing, and concentration to promote physical and mental balance.

Throughout the morning, there were awareness activities, such as the lecture “Hemophilia and Sustainable Disposal,” coordinated by the Hemopa Pharmacy team. The program also included a visit to the Mangal das Garças, with a stop at the Butterfly House and the observation tower with a panoramic view of the city.

Environmental Preservation - During the visits, banners related to World Hemophilia Day were displayed in tourist areas, and the Pedagogy and Hospital Class teams of the Foundation conducted educational approaches regarding the visited sites and the importance of environmental preservation. The initiative reinforced the institution's commitment to promoting quality of life for patients and raising awareness in society about coagulopathies (disorders that affect the blood's ability to clot, causing bleeding).

Director Larissa Francês highlighted the impact of the action on patients' autonomy

The Technical Director of the Hemopa Foundation, Larissa Francês, emphasized the importance of the initiative for patients and families. “We showed that, despite the limitations some may have, it is possible to lead a normal life. They do not need to be prisoners of the disease or the bleeding that may occur,” she stated.

She also highlighted that the event was only possible thanks to the joint work of the teams. “Each sector played a fundamental role in making all this happen. We also thank the senior management for their support and partnership, which make actions like this a reality and a direct benefit to our patients,” Larissa Francês added.

Pedagogue Joyce Cunha advocated for a humanized and comprehensive approach to hemophilia care

Humanization - Pedagogue Joyce Cunha also reinforced the proposal to address hemophilia with a broader and more humanized approach. “We seek to bring this action within a perspective of health humanization, considering social, psychological, cultural, and educational aspects. Our goal is to guarantee rights, promote awareness, and strengthen social inclusion, from a comprehensive view of the human being,” she emphasized.

Among the participants, Gilson Gomes, father of a patient with hemophilia, spoke about the importance of early and continuous care provided by the Foundation. “Hemopa has given us security. My son started treatment at six months old, and today he has a normal life: he plays, kicks a ball, swims, and works out. The institution has provided us with the necessary confidence to care for him and ensure his quality of life,” he highlighted.

Regarding the outings, Gilson Gomes said he was “amazed! I am 51 years old and had never visited the Feliz Lusitânia Complex like this. Moreover, it is very nice to be able to interact, talk, and meet new people.”

Enzo Gomes, Gilson's son, shared his experience. “I have always felt embraced by Hemopa. They have always tried to help me lead a normal life. And today it was amazing to see up close places I only studied in school,” he said.

The program also included the distribution of snacks, a raffle of basic food baskets, and the delivery of educational materials, in partnership with the Hemophilia Association of the State of Pará (Asphepa). (With information from Felipe Borges - Ascom/Hemopa)
