Two enforcement actions carried out on Friday (25) by agents from the Candiru River Base, in conjunction with civil and military police, seized over 1 ton of drugs - skunk marijuana and shredded paper made from cocaine. The seizures occurred on vessels navigating the Amazon River, near the municipality of Óbidos, which departed from Manaus, the capital of Amazonas, heading to Santarém in Western Pará.

Police officers and the sniffer dog that participated in the drug seizure on vessels

According to the police team, the first flagrant occurred during a routine inspection of the pushboat named "Flor da Terra", where 153 bricks of marijuana, totaling 166.625 kilograms, were found. All the drugs were located, with the help of the sniffer dog Isis, hidden in compartments of the vehicle's bodywork. In light of the flagrant, the material was removed and seized from two vehicles, which will be examined.

'Shredded paper' - During the approach to the pushboat "Ana Beatriz", which was heading to Santarém, the sniffer dog indicated the presence of drugs in 18 bags full of "shredded paper", weighing approximately 850 kg. Given the suspicion, the Federal Revenue team conducted a "narcotest", indicating that the paper material was produced from cocaine - a new way of transporting this type of drug, identified and intercepted for the first time in the State.

According to initial investigations by the security agents, the drug transported in this manner makes it difficult to identify by electronic equipment. However, with the action of the sniffer dogs, the seizure occurred.

During the searches inside the "Ana Beatriz" vessel, six bricks of skunk were found in the bathroom linings, weighing 3.677 kg. As it is a place of free circulation for passengers and crew, it was not possible to identify the owner of this material, which was also seized and forwarded for appropriate procedures.

Intelligence and monitoring - According to the head of the State Secretariat for Public Security and Social Defense, Ualame Machado, the continuous seizures reinforce the importance of intelligence work and daily inspections, intensified with the installation of the River Base at a strategic point on the Amazon River. "These seizures are the result of intelligence work that involves monitoring, investigation, and integrated action among security forces. Once again, we are intercepting the logistics of criminal groups, removing over a ton of drugs from circulation, and emphasizing that the State is present and will continue to combat illicit activities. In fact, today we removed over 800 kg of paper possibly produced from cocaine, a new method of producing and transporting the drug, aimed at making it difficult to identify the illicit, which is being seized for the first time in Pará," said Ualame Machado.

In the approach, a total of 1,020.302 kg of drugs were seized from the two vessels. All the narcotic material was forwarded to the civil police operating at the Candiru Base. Subsequently, they will be sent for examination. The commanders of the vessels were heard. Investigations continue to identify the main responsible parties for sending the drugs.
