The international delegation formed by representatives from the Republic of Congo and Indonesia arrived in Pará this week as part of a mission promoted by the German Cooperation Agency - GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit). The group has been in Brazil since April 20 to learn about good practices in biodiversity conservation and understand the functioning of Brazilian environmental legislation, focusing on the goals of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans (EPANB), of which Brazil is a signatory.

Among the mission members are the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Congo, Mr. Beijamim Toirambe, and the Director of Environment at the Ministry of Development and Planning of Indonesia, Mr. Pryanto Rohmattullah. Both are closely following Brazilian experiences in conservation policies and the management of protected areas.

In Pará, the agenda began with a visit to the Utinga Camillo Vianna State Park in Belém, where they were able to follow the Reintroduction and Monitoring Project of Ararajus and learn about the structure of one of the main Conservation Units (UCs) in the state. The activity highlighted local efforts to combine environmental protection and ecological education.

Protagonism - The delegation was officially received at the headquarters of the Institute of Forest Development and Biodiversity of Pará (Ideflor-Bio), responsible for managing the state UCs. During the meeting, President Nilton Pinto presented the main actions of the agency and highlighted Pará's strategic role in the national environmental agenda.

“Currently, about 60% of Pará's territory is protected by UCs, whether state or federal. This demonstrates the state's commitment to environmental preservation and the sustainable use of natural resources,” said Nilson Pinto.

Exchange - Rodrigo Braga, a technician from the Ministry of Environment (MMA), also emphasized the importance of the exchange. “Brazil, and especially Pará, shows how it is possible to align conservation with effective management of protected areas. This is an important step for advancing the goals of the EPANB on a global scale,” he emphasized.

The mission continues until the end of April with activities aimed at deepening discussions on biodiversity, consolidating Brazil as a key player in the international conservation scenario.
