Casa da Linguagem opens registrations for free workshops and classes in May
The program offers courses in fabric printing, guitar, Brazilian Sign Language, essay writing for the ENEM, and theater, with spots available for different age groups
The Casa da Linguagem, a space managed by the Cultural Foundation of Pará (FCP) in Belém, will open registrations from April 28 to May 9 for free workshops and classes. The activities, which will take place from May 12 to 30, include courses such as Fabric Printing, Introduction to Guitar, Brazilian Sign Language (Libras), Essay Writing for the ENEM (National High School Exam), and Text Production, as well as workshops on Experiments with Animated Theater, Introduction to Clowning, and Body, Movement, and Creativity.
The workshops will occur at various times. Fabric Printing, Introduction to Guitar, and Libras will be held daily from 9 AM to 12 PM; Essay Writing for the ENEM has classes from 9 AM to 11 AM, from 3 PM to 6 PM (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), and from 4 PM to 6 PM (daily), while Text Production classes will take place from 10 AM to 12 PM and from 4 PM to 6 PM.
The workshops will be conducted during specific periods: "Ânima" (May 13 to 16, from 9 AM to 11 AM), "Introduction to Clowning" (May 20 to 23, from 4 PM to 6 PM), and "Body, Movement, and Creativity" (May 26 to 30, from 10 AM to 12 PM).
According to Andrei Miralha, coordinator of the Workshops, art and culture are essential tools for social transformation, and the workshops at Casa da Linguagem are open doors for expression, creativity, and strengthening cultural identity. “Our goal is to offer not only techniques but also a space for dialogue, experimentation, and collective construction. Each participant who comes here takes with them not only a certificate but also new perspectives and the certainty that culture is a right for all,” emphasizes the coordinator.
Spots are prioritized for students from public schools and Infocenters, who must present proof of enrollment or a student ID at the time of registration. University students and students from private schools pay a symbolic fee of R$ 20.00, while children under 12 years old, people with disabilities (PwDs), and seniors aged 60 and over are exempt.
The organization of Casa emphasizes that absence on the first day without justification results in the loss of the spot, which will be passed on to another interested party. To receive the completion certificate, participants must have at least 80% attendance.
Historical Reference - Located in a historic building, constructed in 1870 to be the residence of the family of engineer Francisco Bolonha, Casa da Linguagem, at the corner of Avenida Nazaré and Avenida Assis de Vasconcelos, is part of the landscape of Belém, as part of the set of old buildings that resist in the surroundings of Praça da República, the central area of the capital of Pará.
With the restoration carried out in 1991, Casa da Linguagem has become, in its 25 years of existence, a reference as a space dedicated to the study of the word and its possibilities in language, “as sound, writing, meaning, transforming, forming, informing - the word studied as sound, sign, language, and speech,” emphasizes the coordination of the space.
The proposed actions seek dialogue among the most diverse modalities of reading: texts, images, dramatized reading, sung reading, and cinematic reading. With the purpose of promoting knowledge and interest in reading, Casa also houses the Francisco Paulo Mendes Library, with a considerable collection of literary works - both national and foreign - and studies of language and literature; the Pedro Veriano Film Club, and the gallery.
The first director of Casa da Linguagem was the poet Max Martins, with the consultancy of writer Maria Lúcia Medeiros, fundamental names in contemporary literature of Pará.
The Cultural Foundation of Pará reinforces its commitment to democratizing access to culture and artistic education, with actions that encompass literature to the performing arts. The FCP maintains Casa da Linguagem as a hub for training and experimentation, consolidating its mission to value and disseminate Pará's cultural production.
