Therapeutic group reinforces humanized care at the Regional Hospital of Oriximiná
An initiative by the Humanization Commission promotes listening, welcoming, and sharing experiences among companions and the multiprofessional team
Every Thursday afternoon, before visiting hours, the Regional Hospital of Oriximiná Menino Jesus (HRMJ) promotes an activity that has been making a difference in the experience of patients and families: the therapeutic group.
Organized by the hospital's Humanization Commission, the group is a form of collective psychotherapy coordinated by psychologists and professionals from the multidisciplinary team, focusing on active listening, emotional support, and strengthening bonds among participants.
Seventeen-year-old Gerdiel Nascimento, a victim of a traffic accident in Juruti, participated in the group during his hospitalization and reported the benefits of the experience.
“I felt very welcomed. I had never gone through this approach from the hospital professionals. I liked the dialogue among participants and the breathing exercise we did,” he stated.
In addition to patients, the meetings mainly gather companions from the Intensive Care Units (ICU) and Hospitalization. For nursing technician Geysa Nascimento, who accompanied patient Gerdiel, the group provided a moment of connection and relief.
“It is an excellent and differentiated work. It was very good to feel the exchange of experiences, where each participant shared their feelings and we opened our hearts in the group,” she highlighted.
According to psychologist Kácia Feijão, one of the people responsible for the discussion circles, the group is essential for welcoming companions in moments of fragility.
“When a family member is hospitalized, everyone around is shaken. It is in this moment of anguish that the therapeutic group comes in as support. One of the methodologies used is the circular practice, which promotes dialogue and sharing of experiences among group members, strengthening bonds and providing the emotional support necessary for those involved,” she explained.
The activity is part of the actions of the hospital's Humanization Commission, established on March 7, 2025, under the coordination of nurse Katiuscya Braga. The group, formed by about twenty collaborators, works on various fronts with SUS users.
“The therapeutic group is one of the commission's actions, which welcomes patients and companions from the arrival to bedside care. Our professionals also participate in disseminating the daily health status bulletin of ICU patients,” Katiuscya stated.
Care focused on the human being
Delivered by the Government of Pará in October 2024, the Regional Hospital of Oriximiná Menino Jesus is a reference in medium and high complexity. The hospital has 26 inpatient and ICU beds, in addition to 16 beds for emergency care. The structure is equipped for laboratory and imaging tests and offers care in seven medical specialties: anesthesiology, cardiology, general surgery, gynecology, orthopedics, traumatology, and intensive medicine.
The unit is a reference in humanized care in the western region of Pará, with a multiprofessional team. There are nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy, nutrition, psychology, and social service professionals, all focused on a comprehensive, welcoming approach centered on the well-being of the patient and their families.
