Capacita COP 30 arrives at Combu Island with courses in sustainable tourism, English, and digital marketing for residents
In less than a year, the program has already certified over 16,000 people in Pará

Combu Island receives a new offering of courses from the Capacita COP 30 program, focusing on the qualification of local residents and entrepreneurs for the climate event, hosted in the Pará capital, Belém, in November this year. The courses offered are in Sustainable Tourism Management, English for Tourism, and Digital Marketing and Sales, to prepare the community to welcome the expected national and international audience during the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 30).
Each course offers 30 spots, and classes take place in the evening, facilitating access for participants who work during the day. There will be ten meetings aimed at residents and owners of bars and restaurants on the island, with content focused on hospitality, service, sustainability, sales, and communication with foreign tourists.
The partnership is an action between the Secretary of Science, Technology and Higher, Professional and Technological Education (SECTET), the Residents' Association of Combu Island, the Association of Bars and Restaurants of Combu Island, and the Association of Boatmen of Combu Island. Those interested in participating should contact one of the associations to register.
"This initiative reaffirms SECTET's commitment to promoting real opportunities for training and job and income generation. Bringing professional training to riverside communities like Combu ensures that everyone participates in the legacy that COP 30 will leave for Pará," highlighted the secretary of the department, Victor Dias.
The action represents the first offering of courses on the island. The training extends to workers in the food and tourism sector.

Among the participants is retired teacher Ana Cardoso, who sees the course as an opportunity to turn dreams into reality. “I have always wanted to open a small lodging here on the island. Now, with the course, I am learning how to better welcome visitors and even communicate with foreigners. I am excited about what lies ahead,” she said.
For Rosivaldo Quaresma, president of the Entrepreneurs Association of Combu Island and also a student in the sustainable tourism management course, the training is a milestone for the community: “Being able to learn about tourism and communicate with those coming from outside will be a great differential. Many here have never had this opportunity, and now they are preparing for a historic moment.”
The Capacita COP 30 is one of the strategies of the State Government to ensure that COP 30, in addition to discussing the future of the planet, leaves a legacy of inclusion, knowledge, and social development for the people of Pará. The program ends April with over 22,000 training sessions conducted in the areas of hospitality, gastronomy, leisure, and infrastructure.
