“Since Mayla was hospitalized, I hadn’t seen her smile. Today, for the first time in days, I saw my daughter happy again,” emotionally shared Silvane Muniz Martins, mother of little Mayla Stefany, just 3 years old, who is hospitalized at the Regional Hospital of Tapajós (HRT) in Itaituba, in the southwest of Pará. The moment of joy came during a special event held last Wednesday (23) by the Humanization Department of the unit, in honor of World Book Day.

The program began after the children’s bath and snack and brought enchantment and lightness to the little patients hospitalized. The initiative featured a special appearance by nurse Bruna Guedes, dressed as a Pirate, and physiotherapist Alexssandra Melo, who delighted the children dressed as Snow White. With stories told in a playful manner, reading activities, and coloring drawings, the moment turned into a true journey through the universe of imagination.

According to the hospital's humanization analyst, Maria de Lourdes da Silva Santos, actions like this are essential for the emotional well-being of children in treatment.

“Stimulating imagination, promoting the habit of reading, and offering moments of lightness make all the difference in the recovery of our young patients. When a child feels welcomed and happy, the hospital environment ceases to be a place of pain and also becomes a space of care and affection,” she stated.

The action, according to the general director Jefferson Barbosa, is part of a continuous effort by the Humanization sector, which operates transversally in all areas of the hospital.

“Just in the last year, we carried out more than 100 actions aimed at humanization. It is our commitment to make the hospital experience more welcoming for patients and their families, with actions that care for both body and soul,” he emphasized.
