Consep swears in new vice-president and Civil Police Counselor

Consep is responsible for discussing public policies, investigating situations, studying resolutions, and proposing mechanisms for the integrated action of various bodies within the scope of public security.

On Thursday (24), during the 392nd ordinary session of the Public Security and Social Defense Council of Pará (Consep), the new vice-president of the Council, representative of the Pará Society for the Defense of Human Rights (SDDH), Marcelo Silva de Freitas, and the new representative of the Civil Police of Pará, the general delegate of the Civil Police, Raimundo Benassuly, were sworn in. The session took place at the headquarters of the Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup) in Belém.

The meeting was led by the president of the Council and Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense, Ualame Machado, who opened the meeting with the swearing-in of the new members of Consep, highlighting the importance of the Council, which is approaching its 400th meeting, emphasizing the longevity and relevance of Consep for the security actions developed for the state.

"We know the importance of this Council, especially regarding the construction and perpetuation of these meetings, given the longevity of Consep, which has been in existence for 29 years, and we are approaching almost 400 meetings, which demonstrates this commitment to security actions and the ongoing dialogue between public security bodies and civil society, reinforcing the importance of this approach to highlight the relevance and dimension of our Council," pointed out Ualame Machado.

For the vice-president of Consep, Dr. Marcelo Silva de Freitas, being part of the Public Security Council is a great satisfaction, especially concerning collaboration and assistance in actions to improve the security of the State, alongside the defense of human rights.

"It is a great satisfaction to be part of this Council, where we have the participation of civil society, of which I am honored to be a part through the Society for the Defense of Human Rights, which is completing 59 years of work in the area alongside public security bodies, strengthening this banner in defense of society. I make myself available to contribute, collaborate, and make this representation even stronger by evaluating and assisting in improvements in police actions regarding the lives of civil society," said the new vice-president of Consep.

The new member of the Council, occupying the seat of the Civil Police of Pará, the general delegate of the Civil Police, Raimundo Benassuly, spoke about the institution's role in the Council and the work done to combat crime in the state.

"I thank you for the trust in our work, and we will continue to make all the efforts that have already been made by the Civil Police, and today we will further strengthen the relevant issues related to organized crime and cyber crimes, which are our priorities to ensure the safety of society, and in an integrated manner, we will continue to act for the benefit of all," he pointed out.

Created by State Law 5,944, of February 2, 1996, Consep is responsible for discussing public policies, investigating situations, studying resolutions, and proposing mechanisms for the integrated action of various bodies within the scope of public security. The Council is composed of representatives from public security system bodies, civil society, and other institutions, such as the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), the State Court of Justice (TJE), and the Legislative Assembly of Pará (Alepa).
