Metropolitan Polyclinic resumes care for 21 specialties with over 500 appointments
The Metropolitan Polyclinic of Pará, in Belém, resumed its original care profile on Monday (3), offering medical and non-medical consultations, pre-surgical procedures, and exams. The return will not discontinue the "Post Covid (adult and child)" and "Rapid Pre-Operative" programs, which began to be offered on April 19. On this first day of service, there was a significant turnout from the population to the unit's services, reaching over 500 scheduled patients for appointments.
In this return, the Polyclinic offers services in adult allergy, general cardiology, cardiology of the Rapid Pre-Operative Program, pulmonology, gastroenterology, dermatology, clinical neurology, hematology, hepatology, psychiatry, infectious diseases, plastic surgery, orthopedics, anesthesiology, gynecology, mastology, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology, as well as general pediatrics and medical clinic for Post-Covid Screening (adult and child) and non-medical specialties such as: speech therapy, nutrition, social service, and psychology.
The Executive Director of the Polyclinic, Liliam Gomes, states that with the return of the unit's usual activities, "there was a prior scheduling of 8,000 patients for the various services provided. The goal is to provide more resolution to the public health strategy, offering specialized care to patients referred from Basic Units and State Programs," she explains.
The manager also emphasizes that at this stage, "up to a thousand patient slots will be available per day, with the same patient able to undergo more than one procedure while being treated at the unit," added Liliam Gomes.
To ensure compliance with the Unified Health System (SUS), the care of clinical specialties and exams must be fully regulated. Thus, the patient must go to the Basic Health Unit (UBS) in their neighborhood, and if specialized care is necessary, upon medical request, they will be referred to the Polyclinic through the State Regulation System (SISREG).
Programs- To be attended in the "Rapid Pre-Operative" and "Post-Covid Screening (adult and child)" programs, the patient only needs to access one of the communication channels of the Metropolitan Polyclinic to schedule an appointment.
The technical director of the unit, Luiz Fausto, states that even the "Post-Covid" and "Rapid Pre-Operative" programs require specialties, as both have screening as a methodology. "Everything starts with a check-up, which is when we discover that there is some problem that requires assistance from one of the specialties," he details.
For the Secretary of Public Health of Pará, Rômulo Rodovalho, the Metropolitan Polyclinic is a wildcard for health care in the State. "The unit was strategically designed to support the Health Units in the neighborhoods and also to streamline the demands for SUS specialties. Per day, the Polyclinic has the capacity for a thousand appointments, thus efficiently speeding up the care for various pathologies that were halted due to Covid-19. In combating the pandemic, the unit also stood out for its dynamic and comprehensive care of mild and moderate cases of those infected with the new coronavirus," emphasized the head of the department.

The Poli Metropolitana, in 2021, spent 40 days attending to mild and moderate cases of the new coronavirus. From March 6 to April 16, the unit received 17,356 people. According to the technical director of the Polyclinic, Luiz Fausto, on April 17 and 18, a thorough and meticulous cleaning and disinfection process of the entire building was carried out, when care for patients with the new coronavirus was concluded. "Even with the use of chemical products, everything was done to really expedite, prepare the unit, and ensure care with full safety. The patient can seek assistance without the worry of being exposed to contamination," he highlights.
Last year, the complex performed nearly 44,000 Covid appointments, from April 21 to June 30, 2020.
