Government of Pará delivers housing benefit Sua Casa Quilombola to families of the quilombo Boa Vista, in Oriximiná
Cohab's action ensures housing dignity for 60 families of the remaining community, the oldest titled in the State
The Government of Pará, through the Housing Company of Pará (Cohab), delivered this Saturday (29) benefits from the Sua Casa Quilombola program to 60 families of the remaining quilombo community Boa Vista, in Oriximiná, in the Lower Amazon Integration Region.
The president of Cohab, Manoel Pioneiro, highlighted that Boa Vista is the oldest titled quilombola community in Pará and emphasized the state administration's commitment to expanding rights and promoting citizenship.
“On the last 19th, we delivered 50 benefits to families in the Northeast region of Pará, reaffirming the commitment of the Helder and Hana government to promote dignity and citizenship by implementing the Sua Casa Quilombola project. This initiative represents a milestone in the realization of the rights of the remaining quilombo communities, ensuring access to adequate housing and strengthening the cultural identity of these peoples,” he stated.
The implementation of the program results from a partnership between Cohab and the Secretariat for Racial Equality and Human Rights (Seirdh).
Dignity and community strengthening
Present at the event, the executive manager of Social Assistance at Cohab, Patrícia Carvalho, emphasized that the program goes beyond the construction of housing.
“The program is not limited to building houses; it symbolizes respect, inclusion, and social justice. Each benefiting family gains better living conditions, and each community served strengthens its trajectory of resistance and historical valorization. Being in the quilombola community in Oriximiná was profoundly significant. Witnessing the joy of each family reinforced for me that this project is about building hope, identity, and belonging,” she emphasized.
The Sua Casa Quilombola project aims to serve around 300 families per year, providing financial support for the acquisition of construction materials intended for building, renovating, expanding, or adapting housing.
A resident of the community, quilombola Reginaldo dos Santos Melo highlighted the impact of the initiative. "The benefit will help the Bela Vista community a lot, and I will also be able to make improvements to my house. It is a great help because we have difficulties here in the quilombo, especially with housing, and now we will be able to have a much better house for our families,” he stated.
The benefit from Sua Casa can reach up to R$ 21,000. Since the program's implementation in 2019, more than 156,000 families have already been benefited throughout Pará.
