Government of Pará delivers the New Pedreira Market in the capital city of Belém
One month after delivering the Pedreira Complex, the state guarantees another investment for one of the most populous neighborhoods in the city
One month after delivering the Pedreira Complex, the Government of Pará guarantees another investment for one of the most populous neighborhoods in Belém. The New Pedreira Market was delivered on the morning of this Thursday (27), in partnership with the city hall, improving infrastructure, comfort, security, and providing a more suitable environment for the work of the permit holders and better access for the population, promoting job and income generation, benefiting around 60,000 people in the capital of Pará.
Governor Helder Barbalho highlighted the quality of the new facilities. “This is an important moment for the organization of commerce, fairs, and markets, allowing professionals in this activity to have an adequate place, with dignity and quality. The Pedreira neighborhood gains a space that should be a commercial reference point for consumers to acquire good products, knowing that the environment is suitable in terms of surveillance, health, hygiene, and accessibility.”
“I celebrate that the City Hall of Belém, together with the Government of Pará, is delivering this equipment that is part of the entire complex of fairs and markets here in Pedreira, one of the most significant and important neighborhoods in our capital,” emphasized the governor of Pará.
Executed through the State Secretariat of Public Works (Seop), the market features a new layout with stalls to meet current accessibility, flow, functionality, hygiene, and safety standards. The space received the installation of a new electrical distribution network, lighting, emergency signage, a new hydrosanitary distribution network, and drainage, in addition to the replacement of the roofs of the three old buildings with a metal structure.
“This market represents dignity, valuing the worker who waited in the street for three years for this work to be completed. We, in less than 10 months, put it into operation. There are more than 200 permit holders in the market and 250 stalls that were made, not counting the Pedreira Complex. So, in total, we will have more than 500 workers benefited in the market and complex,” said the mayor of Belém, Igor Normando.
Eron Rocha works with açaí production, a nutritious jewel of the Amazon. He emphasizes that the new structure of the Pedreira Market ensures the commercialization of the fruit with better quality.
“This place was very bad, made of wood. Today, we can offer something even better for our consumer. The equipment is very presentable, hygienic, there is no longer any housing for rodents. So, everything turned out great. I just want to thank for this wonderful work in the heart of Pedreira. I make it a point that everyone comes to our space, so we can highlight all hygiene steps and offer a reference açaí.”
A market permit holder for about 30 years, Rosangela Ramos also attests to the benefits of the new public equipment, now modern and safe. “The old market was completely out of standard, old. Wow, now it’s beautiful, top-notch, a very good structure, it looks like a shopping mall. Everything is hygienic, the customer arrives and says, 'your stall is beautiful.' We thank the governor and mayor for this partnership.”
With an investment of R$ 8,358,868.15, the New Pedreira Market features new restrooms for consumers, people with disabilities, and vendors. The services also covered the areas of shrimp stalls, grocery, fish, crab, offal, meat, herbs, umbanda, and clothing.
For the head of Seop, Ruy Cabral, works in fairs and markets directly benefit the daily lives of the population. "This is because the merchant now has a hygienic space, which prevents the proliferation of various diseases. In addition, it maintains and generates jobs, making the local economy grow. And we can also highlight the consuming population, who leave home knowing they can shop in a comfortable and safe environment."
More infrastructure in the neighborhood - Last October, the State Government, also in conjunction with the city hall, delivered the Pedreira Complex with 236 renovated stalls in the food, services, industrialized products, fruits and vegetables, flour, grocery, medicinal herbs, and umbanda articles sectors.
