The Pastor Gilberto Marques Viaduct, located at the intersection of Mário Covas and Independência avenues in Ananindeua, reduces traffic jams and enhances safety in transit in its first month of operation. The delivery by the state government, through the Metropolitan Transport Management Center (NGTM), on October 25, is a milestone in the mobility of the Metropolitan Region of Belém (RMB).

App driver Eliezer Guerreiro, who travels daily through the viaduct and nearby roads, lists the improvements enjoyed by the population this month. “Before the delivery of the new viaduct, getting around the area was a hassle. In addition to traffic jams, several accidents were recorded. Now, we can make the journey in less time, and that represents quality of life for all of us,” says Eliezer.

The structure, which already benefits more than 30,000 people, is 350 meters long, 14 m wide, and 5.5 m high, and is part of the set of urban mobility works carried out by the Government of Pará in the RMB. The construction mobilized over 300 workers, in direct and indirect jobs, generating income and quality of life since the beginning of the works in 2024.

A milestone in history - “This facility represents a significant advancement in the mobility of the population of Belém and Ananindeua, as it came to provide more safety in traffic and reduce the time spent commuting. It is certainly a milestone in the history of Pará that will last forever,” assures the State Secretary of Infrastructure and Logistics, Adler Silveira.

Bianca de Lima, a resident near the viaduct, emphasizes the improvement in safety when crossing, due to the new pedestrian lane. “Before, there was no lane for those who wanted to cross. We had to navigate between cars, and with the lane, we have more safety. Even though we have to wait a bit for the vehicles to stop, it’s comfortable,” guarantees Bianca.

Safety and tranquility - The Pastor Gilberto Marques Viaduct is the fifth road facility delivered by the Government of Pará in the RMB in the last two years. In 2023, the viaduct at BR-316 with Ananin Avenue was delivered in Ananindeua; in 2024, the viaduct at BR-316 with the Viaduct Loop in Marituba, and in 2025 the viaducts at BR-316 with Independência Avenue, and Mário Covas Avenue with Três Corações Avenue, both in Ananindeua.

“Government investments in mobility works like this really make a difference in the daily lives of the population that travels through the area. This was a perimeter that always had accidents and traffic jams. Now, with the viaduct, it’s a relief for us to transit. I feel safer riding my motorcycle around here,” says Kall Wilson, an app driver.
