The Government of Pará delivered in October last year the paving of 15.29 kilometers of the PA-253 highway, in the section that connects BR-010 to PA-127, in Vila Perseverança, in the municipality of São Domingos do Capim. The work, carried out by the State Department of Infrastructure and Logistics (Seinfra), represented an investment in asphalt and marked the development and integration for the region, totaling more than 41 kilometers of new asphalt on this highway.

The section received earthworks, base and sub-base services, paving, shoulder, and signaling, generating about 130 direct jobs and 30 indirect jobs. Today, the impacts on the lives of residents, rural producers, and the local economy are already evident, consolidating the PA-253 as a vector for growth and quality of life.

NEW REALITY

For those living in the communities crossed by the highway, the old suffering caused by mud, dust, and potholes is now in the past. Simple movements, such as going to school, to the health post, or visiting neighboring towns, have become safer and faster. Some producers comment that routes that used to take hours are now completed in just a few minutes.

The reflection is also felt in the flow of agricultural production, especially for crops such as palm oil, açaí, and flour, which are pillars of the local economy. Previously, many producers faced losses and additional costs due to vehicle damage or logistical difficulties. Now, there is a reliable route to transport production more regularly and with less risk.

Resident of the Glória community, farmer Alessandra Neves, 30, celebrates the changes. “Before it was very bad, a lot of dust, potholes, and now it’s 100%. Our trips to São Domingos have improved a lot. When it rained, the road became very slippery, and now it’s perfect,” says Alessandra, who relies on the highway to transport her family’s agricultural production.

Moreover, the new highway strengthens integration between neighboring municipalities, such as Irituia, São Miguel do Guamá, Mãe do Rio, Aurora do Pará, and Concórdia do Pará, promoting a more connected regional network and stimulating the flow of people, goods, and services. Local commerce is already feeling the positive effects, with reduced freight costs, increased customer traffic, and ease in supplying goods.

According to the Secretary of Infrastructure and Logistics, Adler Silveira, the work represents an important step for regional development. “The delivery of the paving of PA-253 is not just a symbolic act; it is a milestone for development for São Domingos do Capim and neighboring municipalities. The State Government is promoting territorial integration, ensuring more mobility and ease of movement for residents and producers. This road goes far beyond asphalt; it strengthens the flow of production, expands local economic opportunities, and consolidates routes that connect the interior to the market. Today, we see not just a finished road, but a new chapter for this region, where development, growth, and quality of life walk hand in hand,” emphasized the secretary.

The progress is also recognized by other residents, such as Benedito Batista, who has lived in the region for over 40 years and states that for decades he faced difficulties in getting around. “Now it’s something else, a beauty. We move around easily, without fear of getting stuck or breaking the car,” he said. Street vendor Waldeir Maciel, who traveled through several municipalities, recalls that traveling through the section was “very bad” before the work, but today he notices a significant improvement in the route and in sales. “Before, there were a lot of potholes and gravel; it was very bad to pass through here with a truck. Now it has greatly improved for everyone here; it has changed the situation for the entire population here,” he commented.

THE WORK CONTINUES

Other sections of PA-253 are already under construction in the regions of Capitão Poço and Santa Luzia do Pará, aiming to pave up to 113 kilometers of the highway. The consolidation of this infrastructure will be crucial to unlock agricultural, tourism, and commercial potential throughout the corridor, strengthening Pará on the map of mobility and regional economy.

One month after the delivery, the paving of PA-253 is already proving to be a watershed for São Domingos do Capim and the region. By connecting municipalities, facilitating routes, favoring the flow of production, and encouraging economic activities, the section inaugurates a new era of development, mobility, and regional integration. The expectation now is that this initial boost will continue and that the local population will keep reaping the benefits of this achievement, which, more than just infrastructure, represents dignity, access, and future.
