The preparatory stage for the structuring of the Payment for Environmental Services Program (PSA), led by the Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Company of the State of Pará (Emater), aims, as a pilot project, to involve a thousand families from Água Azul do Norte, Canaã dos Carajás, Novo Repartimento, Ourilândia do Norte, Parauapebas, São Félix do Xingu, and Tucumã.

The goals of the Decentralized Execution Agreement, signed by Emater with the State Secretariat for the Environment, Climate, and Sustainability (Semas), are part of the Sustainable Territories Valorization Project (Valoriza TS).

Updated PSA data with family farming was presented at COP30

The work of the extensionists from the Government of Pará involves mobilizing communities and individuals, official registration in the systems, surveying eligible hectares, and monitoring the implementation of each project.

COP30 - The updated PSA data with family farming in Pará was presented globally on Thursday (20) by Emater, as part of the program of the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Emergency (COP30) in Belém.

The panel "Experiences of Ater (Technical Assistance and Rural Extension) from the Amazon for the Operationalization of Payment for Environmental Services (PSA)" took place at Agrizone, at the headquarters of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), in the Marco neighborhood.

Practice - In Canaã dos Carajás, this year alone, 50 farmers have already received payment, and another 150 are waiting for their turn. "The modalities are conservation, regeneration, and recovery. These are farmers who keep their APP (Permanent Preservation Area) preserved, maintain preserved springs, and develop activities in harmony with natural resources, such as agroforestry systems (SAFs) combined with hardwood species or annual crops," explains Matheus Sousa, the head of the local Emater office in Canaã dos Carajás, an environmental engineer specializing in the Restoration of Degraded and Altered Areas.

"I have always wanted to leave a reserve, that had animals, that had monkeys. To this day we have an original reserve, a part of nature preserved on the property. Today, we know that we cannot clear everything, that much of what we cleared should never have been touched, and we are reforesting these spaces, including," says Aldaci Cândido Ferreira, 56, a client of Emater in that municipality and a beneficiary of the PSA.
