Skate and sustainability come together at COP30 with an event at the third largest skatepark in Brazil
The skatepark at Parque da Cidade hosts Skate BB at COP30, which is part of the free sports program of the Green Zone
The third largest skatepark in Brazil and Latin America, located at Parque da Cidade, reaffirms its role as one of the main instruments for promoting skateboarding in Pará. Since its inauguration, the space has attracted athletes, social projects, and competitions, and this Thursday (20) it hosted another major event: Skate BB at COP30, which is part of the free sports program of the Green Zone of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), and will continue until 5 PM.
The event brings together national and international stars of the sport and offers the public activities such as cash for tricks, skateboard giveaways, and exclusive merchandise, lessons with professional instructors, safety equipment loans, as well as a demo session with big names in skateboarding. The goal is to broaden access to the sport, encourage new practitioners, and reinforce the structural legacy left by COP30 for Belém.
Children served by the social project Café com Skate, which offers classes and sports guidance to young people from local communities, participate in the activities and experience a unique opportunity alongside their idols.
Among the participants are the legendary Bob Burnquist, Olympic skateboarders Augusto Akio and Raicca Ventura, the Amazonian Daniela Vitória, and skateboarder and social entrepreneur Davison Fortunato, all from Squad BB. Gianlucca Zanardi and Ivan Freitas from the SKTBR channel, the largest skate channel on YouTube in Brazil, also make their first visit to Belém.
Upon visiting the space, Bob Burnquist highlighted the technical quality of the skatepark. “I was very pleasantly surprised. The street area is very well made, with obstacles for all skill levels. The park is perfect for progression, and the people of Belém must be very happy because not every place has a structure like this,” said the most decorated athlete in X Games history.
The warm reception from the people of Pará was also praised by Ivan Freitas from SKTBR: “The crowd is very welcoming, warm, and loving. We can only be grateful.”
The event is supported by the Pará Skate Federation. For the president, Augusto Formiga, the participation of big names in the sport reinforces the growth of skateboarding in the State. “It is a huge joy to see historic athletes sharing the park with our children and local skaters. Banco do Brasil sets an example of support for sports and integration with the Pará community,” said the president.
The skatepark is already boosting competitions in the State
Since its opening on June 27, Parque da Cidade has become a sports reference in Belém. In July, it hosted the second stage of the Pará Skate Street Circuit, bringing together over 100 athletes of various ages and skill levels. The structure has expanded the reach of the sport and contributed to the development of new talents.
With COP30 mobilizing cultural, sports, and socio-environmental actions in Belém, the skatepark is one of the main legacies of the conference, strengthening the practice of skateboarding and promoting inclusion through sports.
The secretary of Seel, Cássio Andrade, highlighted the impact of the space on the sports and social development of the State. “Parque da Cidade is now one of the main environments for social interaction and sports practice in Belém. The skatepark represents a milestone for youth and for the growth of the sport in Pará,” he emphasized.
