Usinas da Paz and Seduc bring the art of children and adolescents to COP30
Dance and music groups, featuring students from the UsiPaz of Cabanagem and Bengui, as well as students from the state public school system, highlighted regional rhythms and themes in their performances.
Children and adolescents served by the Usinas da Paz and the State Department of Education (Seduc) brought art, culture, and representation to the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30) in Belém on Monday (17). The performances were part of the official program of the event and showcased the talent developed through public policies implemented by the Government of Pará in various communities.
The dance and music (violin) groups formed by students from the UsiPaz in the neighborhoods of Cabanagem and Bengui, in the capital, along with students from the state public school system, performed in the program of the Pará Pavilion, in the Green Zone, at the City Park. The performances were specially prepared for the conference and reflected elements of the Amazon, valuing regional rhythms and themes.
For the young people served by the Usinas da Paz, the opportunity represented a unique moment of visibility and recognition, as stated by Thalia Andrade, a student from the violin class of the Usina da Paz Bengui. "Today I felt the sensation of realizing a dream, because we have been studying Music for a few months, and bringing all of this to a COP, such an important event, is fulfilling for us. Every note, every expression, everything we managed to play reflects all the work we have done over this time at the Usina da Paz. It is something I will carry for the rest of my life," said Thalia.
For Caroline Santos, a student from the Dance class of the UsiPaz in Cabanagem, the presentation was important to show the world the artistic strength that lives in the communities. "A few years ago, I would never have imagined living what I am living today. The Usina da Paz allowed me to study dance and fulfill my childhood dream. Today we are here at COP to show people from outside the strength of dance. Many times, dance and music courses are expensive, and the Usina brought us this opportunity," she emphasized.
Transformation - According to the Secretary of State for Citizenship Articulation, Elieth Braga, the presentations symbolize the protagonism of the youth of Pará and reinforce the State's commitment to promoting opportunities and social transformation through culture.
"Today is a very special moment for the children and young people served by the Usinas da Paz Cabanagem and Bengui. We are bringing the work done within the Usinas, the largest citizenship project in Latin America, to this very important event, which places Belém at the center of global climate discussions. For us, it is something very significant and, for all these young people, a remarkable moment in their lives," highlighted the head of Seac.
Joy and emotion – In addition to the Usinas da Paz, students from the state public school system also had the opportunity to showcase their talents at COP30. On Monday (17), the dance presentations involved students from the Orlando Bittar Reference School and the Emiliano Sarmento School.
Nurse Tatiane Ramos closely followed the performance of Marisol Ribeiro, a student from the Orlando Bittar School, who enchanted the audience with the carimbó dance. For her, seeing her daughter on stage was a reason for joy and emotion. "We were very happy when we learned that there would be this carimbó presentation by the children. Dance is something that has greatly improved my daughter's performance in school. Seeing these children performing here at COP, in front of tourists from all over the world, is something that makes me and all the other mothers and fathers very happy and excited," said Tatiane.
"Our students from the state network are on vacation, but we invited them to get to know the space and understand a little more about what we are experiencing during COP. All the presentations made here are linked to Environmental Education, which is in our school curriculum, and which our students experience within the schools. All of us, teachers, technicians, parents, and especially the students, are happy with the opportunity," stated Cláudia Ferreira, the director of Educational Management at Seduc.
In addition to the presentations, students and staff from the Usinas da Paz and state schools also had the opportunity to explore the structure of the Pará Pavilion, a space that centralizes the State's participation in COP30, and the Green Zone, which hosts an extensive program with over 350 activities, including panels, meetings, exhibitions, debates, and cultural presentations.
Service: The presentations from the Usinas da Paz and Seduc continue in the Green Zone program this Tuesday (18). At 9 am, dance students from the Usina da Paz Cabanagem will perform again in the space, alongside students from the Renato Pinheiro Condurú School. In the afternoon, at 2 pm, it will be the turn of the students from the Hilda Vieira School.
With free access to the public, the Green Zone operates from 9 am to 7 pm at the City Park in Belém.
