Metropolitan BRT will have zero fare this weekend

The system offers free rides to all passengers on Sundays and national and state holidays

The Metropolitan BRT will operate with zero fare this weekend, following the policy of free rides always on Sundays and national holidays - as is the case this Saturday (15), which commemorates the Proclamation of the Republic - and state holidays. This measure allows users to travel without paying the fare, increasing access to public transport in the Metropolitan Region of Belém.

The system, which has been gradually implemented since November 1st, currently operates with four trunk lines and five feeder lines that have already transported more than 30,000 people between the municipalities of Santa Izabel, Benevides, Marituba, Ananindeua, and Belém.

According to the Regulatory and Control Agency for Public Services of the State of Pará (Arcon), the service continues to expand its offerings and monitor passenger flow. “We are in a period of assisted phase, and it is important for the population to embrace this moment of zero fare to get to know the service, the routes, and the reach of the Metropolitan BRT, so that it becomes a routine in their commuting, for safety, for quality, which will have a direct impact on the quality of life of the population,” explains Gilberto Barbosa, the director of Metropolitan Transport at Arcon.

Issuance of Pra Já

During the weekend, physical Pra Já cards will be issued at the service points of the Ananindeua and Marituba terminals. From Monday to Friday, users can also issue them at the Cidadania Stations in São Brás and the Metrópole and Pátio Belém shopping malls.

To request the card, the user must present original documents with a photo, CPF, and proof of residence. Students must add an official document provided by the educational institution, valid for up to 30 days after issuance, proving the student's enrollment for the academic year. It is important to note that for minors, the presence of parents or legal guardians is mandatory. People with disabilities must present a medical report issued within the last six months.

Lines in assisted operation

The trunk lines of the Metropolitan BRT depart from the Marituba and Ananindeua terminals heading to downtown Belém. “In the center, we have a type of common stops, operationalizing boarding and alighting, until the return in São Brás, and then it continues expressively in the corridor, to the terminals on BR-316. It is important to inform that this is temporary; possibly starting from November 25, we will begin a new phase of implementation, using the stations located in the central medians, both on BR-316 and some on Almirante Barroso. This will further facilitate user access to our service,” explains the director.

In addition to the express trunk lines, the Metropolitan BRT has stopping lines that currently circulate outside the corridor, in regular traffic, and also stop at traditional points.
