The Pará Economic Development Company (Codec) met on Friday (14) with representatives from Águas de São Francisco (ASF) to align the first steps for the provision of treated water supply, sanitation, and effluent treatment for the Industrial District of Barcarena.

The meeting marks the beginning of a technical cooperation process aimed at strengthening the district's infrastructure, ensuring adequate conditions for both established companies and future ventures, especially in light of the development expectations generated by the future ZPE Barcarena.

Attending the meeting were the director of the concessionaire's unit, Aguinaldo Mendes, and the regional coordinator, Tomás Menezes. From Codec, the director of Strategy and Institutional Relations, Pádua Rodrigues, and the director of Business Attraction and Investments, Manoel Ibiapina, were present.

The concessionaire presented the installed structure in Vila do Conde, where it operates a Water Treatment Station and a Sewage Treatment Station. This infrastructure, initially used to enable the universalization of water supply and sanitation in the urban area of Barcarena, now creates the conditions to expand service to the industrial sector.
According to Águas de São Francisco, the existing network allows for the start of integrated work with the district, with the possibility of gradual implementation of water and sewage solutions according to the demand from companies.

Director Pádua Rodrigues explained that the Industrial District is still undergoing land regularization, conducted by Codec since 2019, which requires prior alignment before any physical intervention, especially in the implementation of networks, in order to align the network routes with access roads.

“The implementation of the district in the 1970s occurred in a disorganized manner and without an urban planning and subdivision project, which led to the non-standardized arrangement of the areas still occupied today. Since 2019, Codec has been conducting a broad land regularization process, organizing the areas already sold and structuring the remaining areas into road and lot projects, in conjunction with the Barcarena Real Estate Registry Office,” highlighted Pádua Rodrigues.

“Therefore, this alignment with the Águas de São Francisco concessionaire is very important and timely, in order to reconcile the projects to better serve the business community. This process ensures organization, planning, and operational safety for all,” he concluded.

Director Aguinaldo Mendes emphasized that the concessionaire is ready to start industrial service immediately and in a planned manner. “With the structure already installed in Vila do Conde, we are able to begin service to the Industrial District. This will be the start of integrated work, providing water and sewage solutions according to the demand from companies already in the district and those that will establish themselves, always in alignment with Codec,” stated Aguinaldo Mendes.

At the end of the meeting, Águas de São Francisco informed that it will send an official letter with detailed technical information to begin the work. Codec, in turn, will carry out institutional communication to the companies established in the district, informing them about the service.

The director of Business Attraction and Investments at Codec, Manoel Ibiapina, assessed that the initiative reinforces the district's preparation for the productive expansion that Barcarena is experiencing. “The expansion of water and sewage services strengthens the business environment and creates fundamental conditions for new companies to establish themselves, in addition to directly supporting those already operating. It is a strategic step to unlock investments and also to monitor the progress of the future ZPE of Barcarena,” he said.

The meeting concluded with the understanding that the technical cooperation between Codec and Águas de São Francisco will be decisive in raising the level of infrastructure in the Industrial District of Barcarena, contributing to attracting new ventures and the economic development of the municipality.
