The Military Police of Pará (PMPA) received, on Wednesday (12), at the General Command in Belém, representatives from the Australian Federal Police (AFP) for a meeting aimed at strengthening international cooperation in combating transnational crime. The meeting is part of a rapprochement agenda between the AFP and Brazilian police forces, focusing on the exchange of experiences and the establishment of strategic partnerships in public security.

The Australian delegation was led by Detective Inspector Richard Langmead, AFP liaison officer for South America and the Caribbean, accompanied by Detective Inspector David O'Donovan.

During the meeting, actions for integration and exchange of operational information were discussed, as well as opportunities for technical cooperation and training of personnel aimed at combating drug trafficking, arms smuggling, and other international crimes affecting the Amazon region and the Pan-American axis.

The head of the Military Police of Pará's General Staff, Colonel Ariel Sampaio, highlighted the relevance of the meeting for institutional strengthening and the recognition of PMPA in the international arena.

"The Military Police of Pará is open to cooperation with security institutions from other countries, especially those that share the same commitment to legality and the protection of society. This rapprochement with the Australian Federal Police reinforces our policy of modernization and integration, strengthening intelligence actions and combating border crimes and transnational networks," emphasized Colonel Ariel.

Detective Inspector Richard Langmead highlighted the AFP's interest in strengthening ties with the Military Police of Pará, especially in the context of COP30, to be held in Belém in 2025, when cooperation among international security forces will gain even more relevance.

In the same vein, Detective Inspector David O'Donovan emphasized the importance of the interaction and integration experienced during the meeting and acknowledged the PMPA's experience in preparing for large events.

"We are deeply grateful to the Police of Pará for the opportunity to speak with its commanders and to learn about their experience in organizing and executing the Climate Conference. We are extremely impressed with the professionalism and level of preparation demonstrated. After this meeting, I will take time to thoroughly analyze our discussions. However, the main points that caught my attention were the meticulous preparation, the solid relationships established, and the effective communication with partners, essential factors to ensure the safety of the community and all conference participants," he highlighted.

The meeting reinforces the strategic role of the Military Police of Pará as a center for articulating security policies in the Amazon, strengthening integrated actions among national and international institutions in favor of the state's public security.
