The Galileu State Public Hospital (HPEG), in Belém, held a special program on Thursday (13) in honor of Blue November, gathering information about the National Policy for Comprehensive Men's Health Care (PNAISH) and oral health care. The activity brought together information, prevention, and support, reinforcing the importance of early diagnosis and breaking taboos in men's health prevention.

The coordinator of the Humanization sector at HPEG, Anny Segóvia, emphasized the purpose of the initiative. "When a man understands that asking for help is also an act of courage, prevention gains strength. Our mission is to open doors, listen without judgment, and remind that health is built with care, affection, and information," highlighted the professional.

Motorcycle taxi driver Cleber Luiz, a resident of Barcarena in the Tocantins Integration Region, participated in the activities while recovering from a femur fracture after a domestic accident. "We work so much that we forget about health. I realized that preventing is easier than facing the consequences later. This action opened our eyes, showing that men also need to take care of themselves, get exams, ask questions, and not be ashamed," he stated.

Another patient, bricklayer's assistant Nelson Siqueira, 28 years old, a resident of Belém, also participated in the action. He is recovering from a leg fracture after a domestic accident and shared that he found in the activities a space for dialogue and reflection. "These conversations make us think differently. I felt heard and understood that taking care of health is a daily commitment, not just when something happens," he reported.

Prevention

In addition to strengthening the actions of Blue November, a month dedicated to raising awareness about prostate cancer and men's health, the Galileu State Public Hospital, in partnership with the State Health Department (SESPA), expanded the dialogue with patients by offering essential guidance on oral health and male care.

Paulo Edson Furtado, a technician from the State Coordination of Oral Health of Pará, joined the program distributing hygiene kits and talking to patients about the importance of maintaining a routine of simple yet decisive care for health. He emphasized that attention to oral health is a fundamental part of prevention.

"We remember that visiting the dentist regularly and taking care of the mouth prevents infections that can affect other parts of the body. When a man understands that taking care of himself is not weakness, but responsibility, he changes his story, and it all starts with prevention," he highlighted.

During the event, the pillars of PNAISH were also presented, guiding men to seek health services regularly, practice self-care, and seek care before more serious signs appear. The action reinforced that Blue November is more than a campaign: it is a permanent invitation for the male population to approach prevention and take care of their health with responsibility and information.

Jacson Barata, a technician from the State Coordination of Men's Health, also participated in the program and reinforced that Blue November is a strategic opportunity to remind that care needs to happen all year round. He highlighted that the National Men's Health Policy seeks to bring the male population closer to health services, promote support, and expand access to prevention.

"The National Men's Health Policy exists to ensure that every man has access to care at the right time. Blue November is a call: get your exams, seek the health unit, and remember that prevention is the best path," he concluded.

Blue November reinforces that men aged 45 and older — or 40 if they have a family history of prostate cancer — should have regular follow-ups with a urologist. The campaign reminds that prevention is simple: routine exams, balanced diet, physical activity, and attention to the body's signals. Taking care of health is also a man's thing.
