At a productive sector event, the governor advocates for the cross-cutting nature of the sustainability agenda
During an event at Fiepa, Helder Barbalho emphasized that sustainable productive practices are already in the consciousness of both producers and consumers
The governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, alongside authorities, researchers, and entrepreneurs from the national and international productive sector, participated in the opening of the "SB COP Business Dialogue for a Low Carbon Economy," promoted by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), this Wednesday (12), in Belém. The event takes place alongside the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30) and discusses sustainability initiatives in the industry.
"Sustainable productive practices must be part of the conception of economic activities in Brazil and the world, based on the premise that this is the consciousness of those who produce and this is a requirement of those who consume," pointed out Helder during the opening speech of the event. "It is this balance that will allow us, in today's decisions, to guarantee tomorrow," he added.
The head of the state executive also emphasized that the holding of COP30 in Belém contributes to the creation of a new paradigm for Brazil. This is strengthened by the SB COP - Sustainable Business COP, which is a kind of global pact launched by CNI to coordinate actions aimed at achieving a Low Carbon Economy, in addition to supporting UN climate negotiations.
"Often, the productive sector has been disconnected from the environmental agenda, even drawing the logic that there was a contradiction. Certainly, this stage has been overcome and it has been understood that the sustainability agenda must go far beyond the environmental agenda. The sustainability agenda is cross-cutting," stressed the governor of Pará.
The president of the Federation of Industries of the State of Pará (Fiepa), Alex Carvalho, argued that it is possible to achieve economic development while preserving the environment. "The productive sector has sustainability in its DNA. Our consumers demand social responsibility. Today, social responsibility is sustainability. Everyone wants their brand, their product, linked to the sustainable agenda," he said.
During the "SB COP Business Dialogue for a Low Carbon Economy," projects of sustainable practices being implemented by the industrial sector in various countries will be presented. For Tennant Reed, director of Climate Change and Energy at the Australian Industry Group, the activities of the SB COP are already having an impact on the international scene. "In Australia, there are many initiatives similar to what CNI is doing here in Brazil," he mentioned.
Federal deputy Rodrigo Rollemberg defended the SB COP as one of the paths for the sustainable agenda and took the opportunity to congratulate Governor Helder Barbalho for the work done to hold the Climate Conference. "COP30 is going very well. Congratulations for the service rendered to Brazil by holding the conference in Pará and for presenting the Amazon to the world," he highlighted.
