State Government opens the Museum of Paraense Handicrafts to the public during COP30
With the theme 'Take the Art of the Amazon with You', the MAP is a space for valuing regional art and culture, bringing together local artists and groups in the exhibition.
The Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat for Social Assistance, Labor, Employment and Income (Seaster), along with the Secretariat for Economic Development, Mining and Energy (Sedeme), held the opening ceremony of the Museum of Paraense Handicrafts (MAP) this Tuesday (11), at the São José Liberto space, in the Jurunas neighborhood, in Belém. With a musical presentation by the symphonic band of the State University of Pará (Uepa), Vigia campus, the celebration moment featured an enthusiastic and expressive audience.
With the theme "Take the Art of the Amazon with You", the MAP is an important space for valuing regional art and culture, aiming to bring together more than 30 local artists and groups. The program promises to showcase the ancestry of Pará through unique pieces and works.
“We opened the Museum of Paraense Handicrafts to the public and hope that everyone can come to contemplate and take a little of our culture and natural beauty with them, as through it people can appreciate all our wealth. We have a space designed with gastronomy, music, and art, all executed by our people, who bring our rich history and culture. During this grand and important event, where the world turns its attention to Belém with COP30, it is the moment for people to better understand the strength that our art and culture carry. Here, it is also a construction of an essential legacy for our State, with more appreciation and opportunities for those who live from handicrafts,” said Inocencio Gasparim, head of Seaster.
During the exhibition days, the public will be able to experience an immersive experience that unites art, music, tradition, and sustainability, celebrating handicrafts as a strong expression of Amazonian culture.
"Today we celebrate the inauguration of the Museum of Paraense Handicrafts, which brings together dozens of artisans showcasing art, culture, and traditions. We are hosting COP30 and will present our art and our people to the world, so that everyone can admire and know what is best in Pará and the Amazon,” highlighted Paulo Bengston, head of Sedeme.
The MAP was designed to serve as a showcase of culture, valuing forms of expression that will reach the world during COP30. Pará is one of the states with recognized cultural and gastronomic diversity, which includes the potential of indigenous, quilombola, and riverside peoples. Regions such as the Marajó Archipelago will be featured in the space, displayed with the beauty of the graphics perpetuated in ceramic pieces inspired by ancestral civilizations, as well as exclusive accessories and utensils.
“This is the moment to showcase our culture, our handicrafts, and to value what we have most genuine, presenting to the world the cultural richness of our people. The Post Office is dedicated to this partnership, also taking on the commitment to support the artists and artisans participating in the event, offering our services so that their products reach other states and countries. Thus, we contribute to the recognition and celebration of Pará's culture internationally,” said the Superintendent of the Post Office in Pará, Marcelo Pinheiro.
"I am happy to be here to represent the artisans of our indigenous community, this is very important to show what we have to the whole world, we have to 'viralize' our work, which we use daily as headdresses, to represent that we are indigenous, there are various pieces like beaded bracelets, there are those made from morototó seeds, which we call, that is from the morototó seed," said artisan Delson Uutu Wai Wai.
The goal of the MAP is to reinforce the role of Paraense handicrafts, a manual work that values local culture and knowledge, in addition to providing sustenance for dozens of families throughout the State. The entire program also counts on the partnership of the Brazilian Service of Support for Micro and Small Enterprises (Sebrae-PA) and the Post Office.
