During the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), held in Belém, the Government of Pará, through the State Department of Education (Seduc), promotes the House of Education and Environmental and Climate Innovation at the Center for Innovation and Sustainability in Basic Education (Ciseb), strengthening the integration between education, environment, and technology.

From November 10 to 14, the space hosts researchers, educators, and students for a series of lectures, workshops, and discussion circles focused on sustainability, pedagogical innovation, and youth leadership in climate education. This unprecedented initiative is promoted by Seduc in partnership with the Educom&Clima Project from the University of São Paulo (USP) and the Socio-environmental Literacy Magazine (Parole).

Training conscious citizens

The State Secretary of Education, Ricardo Sefer, emphasized the relevance of the space and the program for building an education committed to the sustainable future of the Amazon.

“Environmental education is a fundamental tool for forming conscious citizens committed to the future of the planet. COP30 reinforces the role of public schools in Pará in this global dialogue about sustainability and innovation,” said the secretary.

The program of the House of Education addresses topics such as climate justice, sustainable robotics, pedagogical innovation, digital culture, and strengthening youth participation in environmental actions. Highlights include the sustainable robotics tournament, the launch of books written by students from the state network, and the Guardians of Nature exhibition, which highlights the role of youth in environmental leadership.

Other attractions include the photographic exhibition My Family is at COP and the painting exhibition Colors of the Future, both produced by students from the public network.

Pedagogical initiatives with social impact

The coordinator of Ciseb Guajará, Cacilene Bandeira, highlighted the reach of the program and the involvement of the school community.

“From November 10 to 14, Ciseb is hosting the House of Education and Environmental and Climate Innovation, with various lectures and workshops promoted by national and international organizations discussing the environment and education. During this period, we have renowned researchers and pedagogical proposals developed by students that contribute to behavior change and strengthen climate education,” she emphasized.

National dialogue on environmental education

During the event, the Climate Environmental Education Webinar also takes place, held simultaneously in Belém and São Paulo, with live streaming on YouTube. The activity brings together about 200 authors from all regions of Brazil, presenting experiences and good practices aimed at environmental education as a strategy to face the climate crisis.

The activities of the House of Education are aligned with the State Policy on Environmental Education, Innovation, Sustainability, and Climate, established in 2023 by the State Government. The policy's pillars include the creation of the Environmental Education curricular component and the consolidation of Ciseb as a reference center for innovative educational practices aimed at sustainability and the formation of a more conscious and engaged generation with the environment.
