In Marajó, in the municipality of Curralinho, children and adolescents have canoeing classes with Physical Education teachers

The Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat of Sports and Leisure (Seel), implemented the Canoeing Project – Rivers of Talents in the municipality of Curralinho, in the Marajó region, an initiative aimed at popularizing the sport of speed canoeing and encouraging sports among young riverside dwellers.

During the implementation, about 24 Physical Education professionals participated in a theoretical and practical training on the Olympic modality from the 3rd to the 7th of this month. The classes, at Praia Grande, in front of Praça da Carmecita, were taught by the professor and former coach of the Brazilian National Canoeing Team, Bianchi, within Module 1 – Speed Canoeing, with a workload of 50 hours.

The training included canoeing and paddling techniques, notions of didactics, first aid, and practical activities in water, providing participants with direct experience with the aquatic sport and its demands for balance and motor coordination. Module 2, focusing on a workshop for repairing fiberglass kayaks, will be held in 2026.

During the action, Seel delivered 10 kayaks, 10 paddles, and 10 life jackets to the project's core, which will serve about 80 students.

Seel's initiative is already present in the municipalities of Acará, Portel, São Caetano de Odivelas, and São Domingos do Capim

Professor Thales Bianchi highlighted the commitment and interest of local educators in learning and disseminating the modality.

“The receptivity was excellent. The professionals showed great dedication and enthusiasm in learning a new modality that is very much in line with the riverside reality of the region. Canoeing, besides being an Olympic sport, is a powerful tool for social transformation and connection with nature. I believe this project comes to the municipality with the aim of strengthening the practice of mobility,” said the instructor.

The Secretary of State for Sports and Leisure, Cássio Andrade, emphasized the commitment of the Government of Pará to bring sports opportunities to all regions of the State. “The Rivers of Talents Project is an initiative that combines sports, citizenship, and sustainability. Canoeing is a modality that represents Pará, and bringing this project to Marajó is another important step in social inclusion and strengthening sports as a public policy,” he stated.

The Canoeing Project Pará – Rivers of Talents is developed by Seel with the aim of promoting the sport, encouraging the formation of future Olympic athletes, and stimulating environmental education. The target audience is adolescents and young people aged 13 to 17, of both sexes.

The initiative also connects with other incentive policies, such as the Talent Scholarship Program, which supports high-performance athletes and para-athletes in various modalities in the State.
