The Government of Pará delivers, this Tuesday (4), another important work aimed at urban mobility, leisure, and the well-being of the population of Belém: the modernized Duque de Caxias Avenue. The work represents another legacy of the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), which will be held in the capital of Pará.

With services executed by the State Department of Public Works (Seop), Duque has received an outdoor gym, benches, trash cans, game tables, picnic areas, pet spaces, new paving, lighting, and signage with smart equipment. In addition, the roundabouts have been revitalized. The medians have gained flower boxes, drainage, tactile accessibility flooring, grass planting, and seedlings. The avenue also features covered crossings that provide shelter from the sun and rain, generating comfort and promoting another resting point.

Professor Adriana Barros, 33, has lived on Duque for 3 years and reports that the population has already been using the area even before the delivery. According to the professor, the work brings benefits for those who use the space for transportation and also for leisure.

"It has greatly helped pedestrian and animal mobility, as a new path has been created for us to walk. I can see the population using the benches and game tables as well as the pet spaces. The improvement of the bike lane is also evident, as we have more space for movement. I can now use it for both walking and cycling, as I also use my bike as a means of transport," she reports.

Freelancer Luciana Alves, 46, walks every day on Duque with her nine-year-old dog, who has used the pet space on the avenue many times.

"Duque has become very beautiful. I come every day to walk with my pet son, Hercules. And I see that it is being well used. Children play, parents walk. People cycle, run, sit to chat and meet friends," she comments.

Mobility and job creation

With a length of 2.5 kilometers and five thousand meters of roadway, the route is strategic for mobility in the central area of the capital, which absorbs a large part of the traffic in the region. In addition to being located near the Hangar - Convention and Exhibition Center of the Amazon and the City Park, the main hubs of COP30 agendas, it also serves as an alternative route to Belém International Airport.

The work generated 200 jobs and is the result of an agreement between the government of Pará and the federal government, through Itaipu Binacional.
