On this Saturday (1st), at the Olympic Stadium of Pará - Journalist Edgar Proença (Mangueirão), in Belém, was the stage for the first edition of the Global Citizen Festival: Amazon. This historic event gathered around 50,000 people and marked the debut of the international festival in Amazon territory, featuring musical performances and discussions on climate justice, sustainability, and the valorization of forest peoples.

With a lineup featuring Brazilian and international artists such as Anitta, Gilberto Gil, Seu Jorge, Gaby Amarantos, Daniela Mercury, Charlie Puth, as well as indigenous artists like Eric Terena, Kaê Guajajara, and Djuena Tikuna, the event also had a special appearance by Chris Martin, lead singer of Coldplay. The festival also provided space for debates with indigenous leaders, including the emblematic presence of Chief Raoni Metuktire.

Institutional presences reinforce the importance of the event

The Global Citizen: Amazon featured the presence of Brazil's First Lady, Janja Lula da Silva, who represented the President of the Republic. Also present were the Governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, the Lieutenant Governor Hana Ghassan, the Mayor of Belém, Igor Normando, the Secretary of Sports and Leisure and Vice Mayor of Belém, Cássio Andrade, as well as ministers and national and international personalities.

Governor Helder Barbalho, accompanied by First Lady Daniela Barbalho, highlighted the importance of the festival in the global context and the strengthening of Pará's image on the eve of the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 30), which will be held in November this year in Belém.

"A milestone for climate action that will take place in the heart of the Amazon, in Belém do Pará, ten years after the Paris Agreement. The world will gather here to address the climate urgency, with the necessary leadership and solidarity. That is why we are very proud to host the Global Citizen Festival: Amazon in our city," said Governor Helder Barbalho.

In an emotional speech, First Lady Janja Lula also emphasized Pará's selection as the host of COP 30 and the role of women in environmental preservation.

"Two years ago, in Paris, President Lula said we would hold the largest COP of all time. We want a world of peace, more solidarity, free from poverty, hunger, without climate crisis, with greater participation of women. Without women, there is no standing forest," she declared.

Legacy for the Amazon and the people of Pará

The Secretary of Sports and Leisure and Vice Mayor of Belém, Cássio Andrade, reinforced the festival's impact on the self-esteem of the population and the strengthening of Amazonian identity.

"We have here the strength of Amazonian culture, the resistance of forest peoples, and a population that now sees possibilities and dreams of a sustainable future. Holding this event here, on the eve of COP 30, is more than symbolic: it is strategic. This festival leaves a legacy of visibility, engagement, and hope, which will impact our city, our communities, and the entire world," he stated.

For the audience present, the event was experienced as a historic moment. Federal public servant Liliane Cohen highlighted the festival's representativeness in the North of the country.

"The whole world is looking at Pará because of such an important discussion, which is the environmental issue. It is a historic day for all of us. Being at Mangueirão, which is an icon of the people of Pará, gives even more representativeness. Pará is doing beautifully, it is a postcard for everyone," she said.

Security structure ensured tranquility

To ensure the safety and mobility of the public, the State Government, through the Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup), coordinated a special operation with 564 security agents, 100 vehicles, and an aircraft from the Public Security Air Group (Graesp).

The Operational Control Center (CCO), installed at Mangueirão, monitored actions in real-time with the support of 800 surveillance cameras inside and around the stadium. The Military Police operated with motorized, mounted, and foot patrols, with the reinforcement of the Large Events Police Station and the Women's Police Station.

A multifunctional stadium at the service of Pará

Completely rebuilt and delivered by the State Government in April 2023, the Olympic Stadium of Pará has become a national reference in sports and cultural infrastructure. Since its modernization, Mangueirão has hosted over 100 sports, cultural, and religious events, establishing itself as a symbol of diversity, hospitality, and organizational capacity of Pará.

The stadium has also become part of the Mercosur Football Tourist Route, an international initiative coordinated by Brazil during its presidency in the South American bloc. In addition to historic matches, such as the opening of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers and the 2025 Supercopa do Brasil, the venue hosted in 2024 the event "Amazon Live – Today and Always," aimed at environmental awareness.

International broadcast

With live broadcasts on TV Globo, Multishow, Globoplay, YouTube, and ViX (in the United States, Mexico, and Latin America), the Global Citizen: Amazon brought the energy of Pará and the forest to millions of viewers worldwide, reinforcing Amazonian prominence in the global climate debate.
