River bases seize nearly 150 kg of drugs in operation in Marajó
Drugs, packed in 159 tablets hidden in barrels, were being transported on a barge headed to Belém
In a joint action of the river bases and state intelligence agencies, security forces seized approximately 149.065 kg of narcotics on a vessel navigating the rivers of Marajó this Friday (31). The drugs were hidden in barrels attached to a towed trailer and were destined for the capital of Pará, Belém.
The monitoring began based on reports received by the intelligence agencies of Baixo Amazonas about a barge coming from Manaus (AM) that would travel through the rivers of Pará to Belém. In coordination with the integrated river bases Candiru and Antônio Lemos, the teams intensified inspections along the indicated route.
The team from the Antônio Lemos Base, deployed in the Breves strait, approached the tugboat Rômulo (from a private company) that was towing two barges. With the help of the sniffer dog Anubis, the agents located, in barrels stored on one of the barges, 159 tablets containing a substance similar to Skunk-type marijuana, totaling approximately 149.065 kg. The cargo was seized and will be presented to the police authority for legal proceedings.
Operation results and institutional positioning
The seizure is highlighted as another success of the integrated action of the state's security forces in combating river trafficking. The Secretary of Public Security, Ualame Machado, emphasized the coordination of the teams:
“Once again, our security forces, in a coordinated and highly integrated action, demonstrate their effectiveness in confronting organized crime that insists on using our rivers as a route. Through the hard work and intelligence employed by our teams, especially those allocated to the river bases, we are sending a clear message: drug trafficking in our rivers will not be tolerated,” he stated.
