The State Secretariat for Public Security and Social Defense (Segup), through the Institute of Security Education of Pará (Iesp), qualified more than 300 officers of the State Public Security System in the Basic English Language Course, an initiative aimed at COP30 (world conference on climate change). This Friday (31), the graduation ceremony was held at the auditorium of the Military Police Command Headquarters in Belém, marking the end of the training conducted between June and October of this year.

For the head of Segup, Ualame Machado, one of the main investments made in security is to ensure the qualification and protection of the officer, who serves and assists society daily.

“For us, it is an honor to know that more than 300 officers are completing training in the English language. This time, it is also aimed at the activities carried out daily by each of them. And of course, in light of the major events we are hosting in our State, such as COP30, it is very important that they are qualified and able to ensure public safety and better service, whether to the people of Pará, Brazilians, and also to the foreigners we will be receiving. Therefore, I congratulate the Iesp team for their efforts to expand education, and all the graduates for their dedication to starting and completing this qualification,” said Ualame Machado.

Integration - The unprecedented initiative integrated the set of strategies of the Government of Pará to ensure qualified service, efficient communication, and the integrated action of security forces during one of the largest environmental events in the world.

With a workload of 60 hours, the course was offered in the Distance Education (EaD) modality, under the tutorship of the Complementary Education Coordination of Iesp. The content covered was related to the practical use of the English language in public security routines in international environments, expanding communication with participants from other countries and promoting more agility and inclusion in the services provided.

A total of 325 officers from the Security System completed the training, demonstrating commitment and dedication to professional qualification and service to the population and international visitors to the State.

Part of the course graduates: qualification for major events

“From this initiative, we allow agents to perform their work on the streets not only during COP30 but also afterwards, through the English language, which is the most spoken language in the world. With the qualification, they will be able to provide guidance, respond to incidents in a more technical, clear, and objective manner with this audience that is visiting us during COP,” said the director of Iesp, Colonel PM Walder Braga.

According to him, Iesp acts as an important instrument of integration among the bodies of the Public Security System, through education and continuous training of professionals, and it is already a consolidated practice to invest in training and qualification to prepare the forces. “This time, we managed to extend it to municipal agents who are directly on the streets during COP30 and partner with the State Public Security System,” he added.

The qualification included professionals from Segup, Military Police, Civil Police, Detran, Seap (State Secretariat of Penitentiary Administration), Military Fire Brigade, Scientific Police, and Municipal Guards from Belém, Castanhal, Curuçá, Marabá, and Marituba, with the aim of strengthening the training of officers for action at COP30.

“The course brought this knowledge to us, focused on public security, specifically for situations in our work, through videos. All the classes and instructions that were provided are extremely valuable for our participation during COP30,” said graduate José Wilkes Silva Cardoso, sergeant of the Military Fire Brigade.
