Planetarium of Pará offers special programming during COP30
CCPPA promotes activities for the popularization of science, in partnership with cultural and scientific institutions
The Science Center and Planetarium of Pará (CCPPA), linked to the State University of Pará (Uepa), will promote a special program during the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30). The activities, open to the public, will take place from November 5 to 22, except on Sundays. A fee of R$ 10 (full price) and R$ 5 (half price) will be charged.
The program will start next Wednesday (5), with activities in the morning (8:30 AM to 11:30 AM) and afternoon (2:30 PM to 5:30 PM), with free entry, a benefit that will extend to all Wednesdays of the event. On the same date, also free of charge, the observation of the Supermoon will take place starting at 7 PM, with gates closing at 8:30 PM.
On Thursday (6), CCPPA will hold activities in the afternoon, from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Starting Friday (7), the program will occur in the morning (8:30 AM to 11:30 AM) and afternoon (2:30 PM to 5:30 PM), except on Saturdays, which will have visits only in the morning (8:30 AM to 11:30 AM).
According to the director of CCPPA, Professor José Roberto Silva, this will be an "excellent opportunity for the general public to learn about the activities developed at the Planetarium, contributing to the popularization of scientific knowledge, which is the mission of the space."
The director details that the program will consist of video screenings followed by discussions, dome sessions with the projection of the planetarium equipment, access to the science center, and the exhibition "Sowing Life: How Seed Dispersal Occurs in the Amazon," in partnership with the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi (MPEG), which will be available until December 13.
"The activities will be correlated with COP30 and will be promoted in partnership with other scientific and cultural institutions, such as the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi and the Ecofalante Institute," the manager states.
Videos and lectures promote dialogue about the environment
In the program, two dome sessions will be held each day, at 11 AM and 5 PM, each with a limit of 105 people. The videos followed by discussions will take place at 9 AM and 3 PM, in partnership with the "CTV Ecofalante Showcase: The COP is here," an initiative of the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MMA), which brings the spirit of COP 30 into Brazilian territories. The selected films are part of the collection of the Circuit Tela Verde (CTV) and Ecofalante Play, a free educational streaming platform.
The films address the themes "Traditional Peoples and Communities" and "Climate Justice and Energy," including titles such as "Path of the Giants," "Kigalinha," "Vellozia," and "Carbon: What You Need to Know." On November 12, at 9 AM, the lecture "Environmental Education and Climate Change: Fundamentals of the Critical Perspective for Science Teaching" will be given by Uepa faculty member and head of the Chemistry space at CCPPA, Vania Lobo.
The Planetarium's Biology technician, Fernanda Barros, highlights the video "Path of the Giants" for its reflection on the relationship between humans and nature. "The screening of the video brings a sensitive and poetic reflection on the relationship between humans and nature, something that is at the heart of the wisdom of these peoples. With this activity, we want to value traditional knowledge and reinforce the importance of caring for the environment and living in harmony with the forest," she observes.
The Chemistry technician at CCPPA, Katiane Melo, emphasizes that the animation "Kigalinha" combines humor and environmental awareness, stimulating reflection on each person's role in the face of climate change. "The video will engage the audience with its mix of humor, imagination, and environmental consciousness. More than a fun story about a cyborg chicken that comes from the future to save the planet, the video awakens a reflection on the present and each of our roles in the face of climate change," she shares.
