Regional Hospital in Paragominas conducts activities for Pink October with health education
Over two days, the unit promoted prevention and awareness about breast and cervical cancer for users and companions
In honor of Pink October, the Public Regional Hospital of the East (HRPL), in Paragominas, held two days of activities focused on the prevention and awareness of breast and cervical cancer. The actions included health education activities, clinical care, and health guidance aimed at users, companions, and staff of the unit.
On October 29, educational activities about breast cancer were held. On October 30, the topic addressed was cervical cancer. The actions involved more than 100 users and companions.
“Conducting Health Education is a way to reach people with information and guidance that favor the prevention of illnesses caused by preventable factors or by early treatment of the disease, ensuring quality of life,” pointed out the nurse from the Permanent Education Center (NEP), Érica Amador.
Action with female staff - In addition to educational moments, there was a collection of preventive exams (PCCU) and clinical breast exams with the unit's female staff, conducted in partnership with the Paragominas City Hall, through nurse Laura Patriota from the municipality's Basic Health Unit.
“Regarding worker health, this practice becomes even more relevant. As a nurse in the HRPL Human Resources Management sector, I believe that encouraging actions aimed at welcoming and caring for our staff is a way to give back to those who serve, with such dedication, the more than 23 municipalities in our region,” emphasized Érica Amador.
She adds that the partnership with the municipality of Paragominas and nurse Laura Patriota was fundamental to achieve for the hospital's staff the long-desired principle of universal access to health services, as prescribed by the SUS.
In total, 30 female staff members from the hospital participated in the preventive exams, with 16 of them undergoing PCCU collection. The activities reinforced HRPL's commitment to promoting health and preventing cancer among women, encouraging self-care and early diagnosis.
Approval - Maria Ana Cléa Barros Sousa, 50, who works in general services, was one of the participants in the educational activities promoted during Pink October at HRPL. Attentive to her own health, she reports that she usually follows prevention campaigns.
“I take care of my health and always go to the health post, and I even had a preventive exam recently. This lecture reminded me to keep taking care of myself,” said Maria Ana, highlighting that she also encourages her 30-year-old daughter to keep up with her exams.
For her, the lectures and actions promoted by the hospital are essential to strengthen self-care and expand access to information. “These lectures are important because they encourage the population and alert them to the need to take care of themselves. Not everyone has access or remembers to go to the health post,” she noted.
Data - Between January and September 2025, the Public Regional Hospital of the East (HRPL) conducted 164 consultations in oncological gynecology and 412 in mastology. During the same period, there were 54 breast biopsies, 58 cervical biopsies, and 157 colposcopies. The unit also performed 35 surgeries in the field of oncological gynecology and 13 surgical procedures in mastology.
