On this Sunday (19), the Pará Hemotherapy and Hematology Center Foundation (Hemopa) held the first action of the campaign “At COP30, sustain life. Donate blood”, with a large mobilization at Praça da República, in front of Theatro da Paz, in Belém. The initiative was partnered with the State Transplant Center (CET), the ParáPaz Mulher Program, the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), Estácio College, Paysandu Sport Club, and other institutions that united around the causes of solidarity and sustainability. The event marked the opening of Hemopa's programming aimed at COP30 – the world conference on climate change that will be hosted in the capital of Pará in 2025 – and reinforced the link between citizenship and the preservation of life.

The campaign “At COP30, sustain life. Donate blood” was created by the Hemopa Foundation to associate voluntary blood donation with a commitment to sustainability. The initiative is part of the State's preparation for the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30) and will continue until 2026. The proposal is to mobilize donors and partners throughout the period, reinforcing that donating blood is also an act of social and environmental responsibility.

During the morning, the public participated in blood donation activities and bone marrow donor registration, as well as educational, cultural, and social actions promoted by various institutional partners.

The president of the Hemopa Foundation, Paulo Bezerra, highlighted the importance of the action as a gesture of solidarity and citizenship. “We take advantage of this movement on Sunday, which is a day of joy and celebration for families, to show the importance of blood donation. Today we have a collection unit operating inside Theatro Waldemar Henrique and a mobile unit here in the square, with good participation from the population in this solidarity gesture that saves lives,” he stated.

He also emphasized the connection between the campaign and the principles of sustainability. “Hemopa is part of this sustainability system, with actions aimed at environmental preservation and social collaboration. We are reinforcing our stocks to meet the demands that may arise during COP30,” he added.

The Hemopa teams also promoted playful and educational activities with the public, encouraging the exchange of information on the topic of donation. Social worker Vanessa Pimentel, from the Donor Recruitment Management (Gecad), explained that the goal was to bring the public closer in a light and interactive way.

“The quiz has questions about blood donation and bone marrow registration, and serves to clarify doubts about criteria, requirements, and curiosities. It’s a fun way to teach and clarify, using the game as a tool for people to better assimilate the subject,” she explained.

During the event, new volunteers for bone marrow donation were also registered — a process that consists of collecting a small blood sample (5 ml) for compatibility testing. Student Alessandra Freitas de Sousa, from the State University of Pará (Uepa), took the opportunity to register.

“I had already participated in partnerships between Uepa and Hemopa and, from that, I discovered the importance of bone marrow donation. Besides helping those in need, registration also brings benefits, such as the possibility of exemption in competitions and work leave, which encourages student participation,” she shared.

The State Transplant Center (CET), linked to the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), also participated in the action with guidance on the importance of organ and tissue donation, highlighting the Electronic Authorization for Organ Donation (Aedo). Biomedical Cláudio Levi Mascarenhas, from the CET's Division of Regulation of Organs and Tissues, emphasized that the partnership with Hemopa expands the reach of awareness actions.

“We are here in partnership with Hemopa, which is also part of this large donation network. Our work is focused on the collection of organs and tissues, such as liver, kidney, and cornea. It is essential for families to discuss the topic and know the wishes of their loved ones, because it is the family that confirms the donation when it becomes possible,” he explained.

He further reinforced that the union between state organs increases the chances of saving lives. “Being here with Hemopa is important precisely for this reason: we unite the two fronts of donation, blood and organs, expanding awareness and the possibilities of serving more people waiting for a transplant,” he concluded.

The ParáPaz Mulher program team also integrated the programming, offering guidance on domestic violence prevention and informing about the support and shelter services available to the population. Social worker and coordinator of the unit in Belém, Bruna Castelo Branco, emphasized that moments like this strengthen dialogue with the community.

“The ParáPaz Foundation has several services aimed at children, adolescents, women, and the elderly. Our unit works with the reception of women in situations of domestic violence, with listening and referral to the support network. These actions in partnership with Hemopa are fundamental to publicize our services, because there are still many people who do not know the work of the Foundation,” she explained.

She added that the integration between state government bodies is essential to expand the reach of public policies. “Hemopa is always our partner. Being together in public spaces like this is a way to join forces and bring information to the population, bringing government services closer to people,” she highlighted.

Among the donors who participated in the action was psychologist Anna Carolina Corrêa, a supporter of Clube do Remo, who followed the campaign's dissemination on social media. “I saw the action through my team's profile and decided to come help. Everything is well organized and calm, and I believe that soon the movement will increase. I am already a donor at Hemopa and even have the card,” she shared.

The director of Social Responsibility at Paysandu Sport Club, Thalys Cardoso, also highlighted the importance of the club's partnership with Hemopa. “Another year in which Paysandu makes a great partnership with Hemopa, not only today but in other actions as well. We came to Praça da República inviting fans on social media to participate in the quiz and compete for exclusive club prizes. The Social Responsibility board and the Lobas came to represent Paysandu, reinforcing this partnership that is getting stronger,” he stated.

The action also featured the participation of the Interdisciplinary Academic League of Diabetes (LAID), from Estácio College in Belém. The league's president, Anne Souza, explained that the multidisciplinary group works on educational campaigns and health promotion. “We came to participate with Hemopa to encourage blood donation, remembering that one donation can save up to four lives. For us, from the Academic League, it is very important to contribute to this cause. Even though it is focused on diabetes, blood donation also connects to health promotion,” she affirmed.

Marcela Corrêa, a 6th-period Pharmacy student at Estácio College in Belém, explained that the group brought the Descartômetro project to the event, aimed at guiding the correct disposal of medications. “The Pharmacy course deals directly with medications, and we often observe incorrect disposal, which can harm the environment and health. Our project seeks to guide the population on proper storage and disposal, encouraging them to seek collection points to avoid contamination and the proliferation of superbugs,” she stated.

She also highlighted the importance of the partnership with Hemopa. “This partnership is very important because it reinforces the commitment to health and awareness. Many people still dispose of medications in regular trash or in the toilet, and our presence here helps to bring information and save lives, both through environmental care and health prevention,” she concluded.

The musical closing was provided by the Magia das Cordas project, coordinated by professor Cizinho (Ildacu Pamplona), from the Carlos Gomes Institute. He is also responsible for two music schools and works on social projects that bring performances to hospitals, nursing homes, and public spaces. “For the students, participating is a great joy. They are already used to playing in streets, nursing homes, and hospitals, and this is important to spread what they learn in the classroom while bringing joy to people. Music has this power to calm, to take the focus off worries, and helps to make donors more relaxed before donation,” he emphasized.

Among the present partners were also the Institute of Arts Sciences (ICA), from the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), which promoted cultural presentations in the amphitheater of the square, and the Pharmacy course at UFPA, with educational activities on the sustainable disposal of expired medications and materials.

Service - Those who wish to contribute to the campaign can donate blood at Hemopa's headquarters, on Serzedelo Corrêa Avenue, in Belém, or at the collection points located in Castanheira and Metrópole shopping malls. Service is available from Monday to Saturday, from 7:30 AM to 6 PM.
