In Breves, Marajó, the Technical Assistance Company (Emater) delivers the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR) to farmers

The Government of Pará, through the Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Company of Pará (Emater-Pará), delivered the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR) to 30 families this Wednesday (15) in Breves, Marajó.

This action is the result of a partnership between the Federal and State Governments and the municipality to promote family farming on Marajó Island. This Wednesday, families of rural farmers from PA-159, from Vicinais Zero, 05, 07, and Vicinal do Rio Arapijó were benefited.

According to Josoel Miranda Barros, a rural producer from Vicinal Zero, the benefit will help prove ownership of the property where he grows cassava, açaí, rice, raises chickens, among other activities.

“It is very gratifying for our family to receive the CAR because it gives us more security regarding the proof that this land is ours. I am immensely grateful for the support of the Emater technicians, who help us with all the necessary guidance to improve our crops and our work. This benefit will further improve our family income and our quality of life as small farmers,” he said.

The CAR is one of the main documents that guarantee the registration of environmental information of a rural property, such as areas of reserve, production, and permanent preservation. It integrates the owner's data, as well as assists in obtaining rural credit, financing, insurance, among other benefits for family farmers.

According to the local head of the Emater Office in Breves, Jocimar Mendonça, the action was taken after rural producers in the region sought the services offered for free by the technical assistance company.

“From the contact of a rural producer who sought technical assistance and rural extension services to obtain rural credit. After that, we scheduled visits to the properties to acquire information and documents from the producer. We made the registrations and now the delivery of the documents,” he explained.

Jocimar Mendonça informed that the activities developed in the region include: management of native açaí, cassava for flour production, horticulture, and beekeeping, fish farming, and raising free-range chickens.

He also emphasized the importance of the benefit to small farmers as a way to promote and improve the quality of life and income of families and the entire community involved, in addition to providing food security.

“The delivery of the CAR is gratifying for me as a public ATER agent, especially for positively impacting the lives of farmers, extractivists, and aquaculturists. Our work is very important because it promotes food security, boosts the region's economy, and rural and sustainable development, in addition to contributing to environmental and social justice,” he concluded.
