Transamazon Regional Public Hospital invests in Volunteer Program

Initiative reinforces humanized assistance in the hospital unit and contributes to citizen and professional training in caring for others

For nearly two decades, the Transamazon Regional Public Hospital (HRPT), in Altamira, southwest of Pará, has carried the mission of being a reference in health care for the population. Recently, the User Service of the unit updated the satisfaction survey, conducted every month. 99.88% of patients and companions rate HRPT as excellent, with humanization being one of the most highlighted points.

The largest health unit in the region develops a series of services focused on well-being: music therapy, monthly birthday celebrations, handicrafts, and commemorative dates, such as Children's Day, which is approaching. Another initiative that reinforces humanization at HRPT is the Volunteer Program.

Housewife Maria Perpétua dos Santos decided to dedicate herself to volunteering after going through two hospitalizations and several surgeries due to a serious traffic accident. “It is a great satisfaction, a learning experience, it is reciprocal because I have been through this. For me, it means a lot to have this opportunity to help others.” She adds: “sometimes, you don’t even need to speak, just listening helps a lot,” she reflects, recalling the moment she had to be hospitalized during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was also during the pandemic that Eliana Costa embraced volunteering. The general services assistant has worked for 15 years at the Transamazon Regional Hospital and, by closely following the chaotic scenario imposed by COVID-19, engaged in the mission to help even more those in need. “For me, it is something pleasurable, as I can donate a bit of my knowledge and learn new experiences.”

The HRPT Volunteer Program is offered by the Humanization Service of the unit, in a partnership between the Government of Pará and Instituto Acqua. Gabriel Santos coordinates the actions. “Seeing this work and participating with the volunteers is more than a privilege, it is a life mission,” he celebrates. Since 2023, the program has reached 790 volunteers, with more than 70 in Altamira.

To become a volunteer and contribute to humanization at the Transamazon Regional Hospital, simply access the official website, where all the information is available. Another option is to directly seek the Humanization sector of HRPT, located at Avenida Brigadeiro Eduardo Gomes, Esplanada do Xingu.

In addition to contributing to the recovery of patients, volunteers have benefits such as the right to a certificate with valid hours for curricular compensation, like medical student Maria Fernanda Cruz, who divides her time between the Federal University of Pará (UFPA) and the corridors of the Transamazon Hospital. “For me, it is important because it helps me gain experience in an environment that will be part of my routine,” says the young woman, who years ago was a patient at HRPT.
