In Belém, security agents are trained for humanized care for people in street situations
The main objective of the training is to enable the servers to promote effective care for this population, addressing topics such as vulnerability, human rights, and reception strategies

The Public Security and Social Defense Secretariat of Pará (Segup), through the Directorate of Public Policies and Social Prevention (DPS) and the Institute of Security Education of Pará (Iesp), trained 61 agents from the Military Police and Municipal Guard of Belém in the course "Targeted Care for the Homeless Population" on Tuesday (7) and Wednesday (8) in Belém. The goal of the training is to enhance the professionals' skills to provide more sensitive, efficient, and humanized care to people in social vulnerability.
Held on Tuesday (7) at the 2nd Military Police Battalion and on Wednesday (8) at the General Command of the Municipal Guard of Belém, the training was directed to 19 military police officers and 42 municipal guards from Belém, who learned guidelines to promote more sensitized and humanized care, strengthening the institutional culture of respect for human rights.

According to the Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense, Ualame Machado, the action is part of a pioneering strategy of the State of Pará, which has been carried out since 2024, aiming to improve the public security system and the entire protection network that operates in assisting vulnerable populations, such as people in street situations.
“The training we have been promoting since 2024 has been a fundamental step to improve the way our professionals approach and assist the homeless population in our State. We recognize the importance of humanized and efficient care that respects the dignity of each individual. For this, we continue to invest in the qualification of our agents and in the entire protection network that works in partnership with security, thus strengthening our capacity to offer support and solutions to those who need it most. This is a commitment from the Public Security Secretariat to building a fairer and more supportive society,” he stated.

Among the topics addressed in the training are assistance policies for people in street situations and the reality of Brazil and Pará. Workshops and interactive dynamics were also held so that the agents could better understand the context of the vulnerability of the population and systematically discuss the work of social assistance and public security.
“We are very grateful for this training that has added a lot of knowledge regarding the treatment of people in street situations. In my view, this type of didactics should be included in training courses and formation courses for all agents,” said the inspector of the Municipal Guard of Belém, Alcione Santos.

Pioneering in Brazil, the training promoted by Segup has now reached its 12th class. Iesp participated in the pedagogical construction of the course with a multidisciplinary action for targeted assistance to the most vulnerable population.
Among the 61 qualified agents was Inspector Diana Medeiros, head of the Teaching Division of the Municipal Guard of Belém. “I came to thank Segup for the opportunity offered to our servers, with the lecture on training for care of the homeless population. Certainly, the knowledge acquired is of great importance for the better preparation of our agents, enhancing their knowledge and preparing us for a humanized performance,” she pointed out.
