Opened to the public last Saturday (4), the Museum of the Amazons has enchanted those passing through Porto Futuro, in Belém. In just two days of operation, more than 6,500 people visited the space, confirming the enthusiasm and approval of the population of Pará for the new museum facility delivered by the Government of Pará.

Right in the first hours, entire families gathered in front of Warehouse 4A, eager to get to know the museum. The space also welcomed its first school groups, including students from Sebastião Oliveira School, from Cachoeira do Piriá, in northeastern Pará.

In front of one of the displayed photographs, young Pâmela Souza was moved. "I would say that it (the photo) is like there in Gurupi, a place of peace, with the trees and the river. I could even imagine a little boat passing by here with people," she commented, enchanted. For the student, the visit had a special meaning: "It's the first time the school promotes a trip like this far away," she celebrated.

Inaugural exhibitions - The public was able to visit the two exhibitions on display: "Amazon", by photographer Sebastião Salgado, which brings together images captured during expeditions in the region, in a visual dive by one of Brazil's greatest photographers about the grandeur and strength of indigenous peoples; and "Ajurí", a collective show created by the Institute of Development and Management (IDG) especially for the inauguration.

The word ajurí, of nheengatu origin, designates collective work and inspires the curatorial proposal of the exhibition, which promotes a crossing between art, science, and traditional knowledge, bringing together artists, researchers, and Amazonian communities in installations, videos, and interactive pieces. The show serves as a preview of the permanent exhibition, currently under construction.

For the State Secretary of Culture, Ursula Vidal, the success of the first days demonstrates how much the population recognizes itself in the project. "The Museum of the Amazons is an ajurí of knowledge, a space built with listening and collaboration. It reaffirms that the Amazon is not just a territory of forest, but also of urbanities, intelligence, technology, art, and affection. Seeing such a strong return from the public shows that the museum is already fulfilling its mission of placing the Amazon at the center of global solutions and regional pride," she highlighted.

Legacy of COP30 - With free admission until February 2026, the Museum of the Amazons is part of the set of works carried out by the Government of Pará that will remain as a legacy of the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30) to the capital of Pará. The space aims to value the culture, science, and technology of the Amazons, celebrating the diversity and creativity of the region.

The museum features two large exhibition spaces, measuring 950 m² and 500 m², in addition to a shop, a multipurpose room, and an educational room of 77 m². The facility is part of the Integrated System of Museums and Memories (SIMM/Secult) and is being implemented by the Institute of Development and Management (IDG), in partnership with the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi.

Tickets are free and can be obtained through the Sympla platform, at this address, or directly at the museum's box office. More information about the operation is available on the official Instagram profile: @museudasamazonias.
