The Civil Police of Pará (PCPA) participated on October 3 and 4 in the IV Mass Castration Journey in Latin America (CASTRALAT), an event commemorating World Animal Day, held in the municipality of Abaetetuba, in the Tocantina Region.

The action involved the Animal Protection Delegacy (Depa), a unit linked to the Specialized Division for Environment and Animal Protection (Demapa), in partnership with the Veterinarians Association of the Amazon and the Municipal Secretary of the Environment of Abaetetuba. The journey took place simultaneously in 20 countries in Latin America, bringing together professionals and institutions committed to the cause of animal protection and welfare.

Population control and awareness

According to delegate Edson Azevedo, head of Demapa, the initiative focused on the population control of dogs and cats, as well as promoting awareness about responsible ownership.

“The goal of the campaign is to control the population of dogs and cats through large-scale castration surgeries, raising society's awareness about the importance of animal population control as an effective method in controlling zoonoses and preventing the crime of mistreatment. Demapa actively participated in the actions, including giving lectures on responsible ownership and on the crime of mistreatment against animals,” highlighted the delegate.

Integrated action

During the drive, more than 100 dogs and cats were castrated, receiving specialized care and post-operative follow-up. Two investigators from the Civil Police, who are also veterinarians, directly participated in the surgeries and other activities carried out in the municipality.

The participation of the Civil Police reinforces the commitment of the Government of Pará to public policies aimed at animal protection, the environment, and citizen education, through the integrated action of its security forces and partner agencies.
