Opened for visitation this Saturday (4), the Museum of the Amazons is already a public success. Located at Porto Futuro, the facility is dedicated to valuing the culture, science, and technology of the Amazons. The museum is part of the set of works carried out by the Government of Pará for COP30 and will remain as a legacy to the capital of Pará.

In the coming days, until Friday (10), the museum will operate on special hours, until 8 PM. On Saturday (11), the day of Círio, it will be open until 4 PM, and on Sunday (12), from 12 PM to 8 PM. Admission is free.

Governor: "A fantastic leisure space that is associated with the Estação das Docas and consolidates the requalification of the port area"

Governor Helder Barbalho, who was at Porto Futuro this Saturday, highlighted the importance of the new facility for promoting tourism, culture, and leisure in Belém. “It is a fantastic leisure space that is associated with the Estação das Docas and consolidates the process of requalifying the port area of the capital.”

“3,000 entries have already been requested for tomorrow (Sunday), which shows that the people of Belém and those who visit us are eager to experience this museum. Anyone who has the opportunity to see what is here will certainly be enchanted. I recommend that you come and bring your families to get to know not only this fantastic structure but also the content of the Museum of the Amazons, which speaks about us and shows, through immersive experiences, a unique atmosphere of those who live in the Amazon,” added the governor.

Vice Governor, Hana Ghassan, visits the exhibition “Amazon”, by Sebastião Salgado, presented for the first time in Brazil

The Museum of the Amazons opens with two prominent exhibitions. On the ground floor, there is the international exhibition “Amazon”, by photographer Sebastião Salgado, presented for the first time in the Northern region of Brazil. On the mezzanine, the public can visit the exhibition “Ajurí”, conceived by IDG (Institute of Development and Management), especially for the Museum of the Amazons.

Hana Ghassan attended the opening of the newest facility dedicated to culture, science, and technology in the capital of Pará

“We inaugurated this museum with the exhibition Amazon, by Sebastião Salgado — the largest ever made to date — with almost 400 images including photographs and products, projections that allow the visitor from Belém, tourists, and the city's population to have a reflective experience about our identity, about what constitutes us as Amazonians and also about our contribution to the development model from these sustainable Amazons,” emphasized the State Secretary of Culture, Ursula Vidal.

“We are inserted in this great ecosystem, where here inside Porto Futuro there is also a gastronomic experience that says a lot about our identity, a route of heritage and bioeconomy that includes Ver-o-Peso, Estação das Docas, the Conjunto dos Mercedários, and our historical museums. It is a whole polygon of the city integrated into an ecosystem of Amazonian experiences and their cultural, social, economic, and symbolic potentials — a mirror. The museum inscribes itself in this territory in a very important way, inviting the visitor to undergo an immersive process, deeply, aesthetically very stimulating and beautiful. Anyone who enters this museum leaves in a different way,” concluded the secretary.

Ricardo Piquet, general director of IDG, spoke about the second exhibition on display:
“I think that here in the museum people will be surprised. The Amazon has been talked about for a long time, but many people still do not know it. Here they will be able to know the essence of the Amazon through the Ajurí exhibition, a very rich and pertinent term for the moment. In several indigenous languages, it translates to ‘together to make one’, that is, an idea of collective effort. This exhibition brings together a collection of local artists produced here, which translate this richness and sociobiocultural diversity,” he stated.

The Pernambucan Flávia Villar, an education analyst, came to Belém for the second time and was one of the first to arrive at the museum and shop at the space's store. “Wonderful, a gift! I am from Recife, I am here visiting and had the opportunity to see this wonder of Sebastião Salgado. I even bought an aromatic candle, which will bring this memory from Pará,” said the visitor.

During the initial phase of the museum's operation, until February 2026, admission will be free. Tickets can be picked up through the Sympla website, access here, or at the museum's box office.
