Public work in partnership between the state and municipality, new waterfront of Breu Branco receives the TCMPA Award for Best Practices
Public equipment secured the award in the Public Works category, reinforcing the space as a place of integration and sustainability for the local population and the Lago de Tucuruí Integration Region.

The new waterfront of Breu Branco, in southeastern Pará, delivered by the state government in July 2024, won the TCMPA Award for Best Practices this Friday (3), an unprecedented initiative by the Court of Accounts of the Municipalities of Pará. Resulting from a partnership with the municipal government, the public equipment secured the award in the Public Works category, reinforcing the space as a place of integration and sustainability for the local population and the Lago de Tucuruí Integration Region.
The new waterfront of Breu Branco represents a transformation in the urban and tourist infrastructure of the city. The work involved principles of sustainability, innovation, and efficiency in public management. In addition to requalifying the old waterfront, the intervention created a space for leisure, culture, tourism, sports, and community interaction.

“The new waterfront of Breu Branco has become one of the main postcards of the city, promoting tourism, leisure, and culture in southeastern Pará. The management of Governor Helder Barbalho and Vice Governor Hana Ghassan continues to ensure works that encourage the great tourist potential of the municipalities in our state. And it is gratifying to see that this work between state and municipal power has been recognized in an award from the TCM,” emphasizes Ruy Cabral, Secretary of Public Works.
The services of the new waterfront – executed by the State Secretariat of Public Works (Seop) over approximately 500 meters – are located on Alfredo Kolling Street, in the area of the artificial beach, and included the construction of nine kiosks, urbanization of a grove, urbanization of a boardwalk, and a firefighters' platform.
“This is a very important moment, not only for me but also for the entire population of Breu Branco. The project that had the partnership of the state government, Governor Helder Barbalho, Vice Governor Hana Ghassan, and Secretary Ruy Cabral, was what enabled us to realize this dream of transforming a place that was once marginalized and forgotten into one of the most visited environments in the state, into a waterfront that is now known in Pará,” highlighted the mayor of Breu Branco, Flávio Mezzomo.
Since 2019, the government of Pará has delivered 23 waterfront projects in municipalities. Currently, twelve are under construction, and the state government's goal is to build 34 waterfronts by the end of 2026.
