The governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, the vice-governor, Hana Ghassan, and the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, inaugurated this Friday (3) the Museum of the Amazons, one of the main cultural facilities of the Porto Futuro complex in Belém. Part of the legacy of the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), the space will open its doors to the public this Saturday (4).

The delivery took place during the second day of the president's agenda in the capital of Pará, as he oversees the works and preparations for the climate event, which will be held in six weeks. The presidential delegation also includes the presence of the Ministers of Culture, Margareth Menezes, and the Environment, Marina Silva; and the Ministers of Health, Alexandre Padilha, and the Civil House, Rui Costa.

Governor Helder Barbalho highlighted the opening exhibition, “Amazon”, signed by photographer Sebastião Salgado and presented for the first time in the North region. “He was a professional who, through his work, taught us to have a new perspective on the Amazon,” he stated. The second opening exhibition is “Ajurí”.

The Museum of the Amazons features two large exhibition spaces, measuring 950 m² and 500 m², in addition to a shop, a multipurpose room, and an educational room of 77 m². Each environment was designed to host programs that integrate different knowledge and value the history of the Amazonian peoples.

Porto Futuro brings together five restored and requalified warehouses. In addition to the Museum of the Amazons, the complex will also include the Gastronomic Center, the Bioeconomy and Innovation Park of the Amazon, which will be delivered on October 7, and the Caixa Cultural, with an inauguration scheduled for October 8.
