This Sunday (5), the Mangal das Garças Zoobotanical Park promotes another edition of its traditional children’s project Ecoarte. This week, the workshop offered will be inspired by a historical and cultural aspect of the State: the "Raio-que-o-parta" movement. The event starts at 10 AM in the amphitheater of the complex. Participation is free.

Raio-que-o-parta

Modernism in Brazil was constituted by different facets, and in architecture, one of the most present images was the panels formed by tiles. The transportation of these tiles from the central-south region to the North of the country was precarious, and many ended up breaking along the way. To prevent merchants from incurring losses, they ended up selling these shards at lower and more accessible prices.

Thus, the "Raio-que-o-parta" movement was born, creating a unique way to insert itself into Brazilian modernism, with singular mosaics in various shapes. Even today, in the streets of Pará and other regions, it is possible to observe the cultural, popular, and resistance symbol that has been marked in architectural history.

Workshop

As a way to bring children even closer to the history and culture of the State, Cumbuca - Creative Workshops has prepared a morning full of learning with a colored paper mosaic workshop inspired by the arts of "Raio-que-o-parta".

“This Pará movement is something that strongly belongs to the imagination of the population, and keeping the collective memory alive is essential for the history of the region. Therefore, showing this important side of art and culture to children further strengthens the bond with our origins,” says Mayara Cohen, the creator of Cumbuca.

Ecoarte is a project carried out by the state government, through the State Secretariat of Tourism (Setur) and the Social Organization Pará 2000, the company that manages Mangal, and aims to disseminate environmental education, culture, and leisure for children.

In addition to the children’s projects, Mangal das Garças has daily programs so that the public can connect as much as possible with the local fauna and flora. Check it out:
