"The data presented demonstrate a significant reduction, both in the month of September and in the last nine months of the year, which shows that our strategy for the Metropolitan Region of Belém is working, as well as the operations launched, especially in neighborhoods where crime is more pronounced, in addition to the strong presence of police on the streets, which is noticeable to those living in the metropolitan area. All actions aim, above all, at the safety of those living in Greater Belém so that they can have greater security and peace of mind,” said Ualame Machado, Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense.

More reductions - In one year, the Metropolitan Region also recorded a decrease in crime compared to September 2024, when 30 cases of CVLIs were recorded, representing a 40% reduction in crimes.
In the accumulated total from January to September 2024, the RMB recorded 276 cases of the crime, which represents a reduction of 22.10% in the recorded cases.
Operation and visibility - The security strategies launched for the Metropolitan Region of Belém include visibility actions, through the operation “Stronger Police,” carried out by the Military Police, with visible policing on the streets, in addition to patrols that occur daily in strategic points of the city, prioritizing times of higher pedestrian traffic, such as during school and work hours.
Other operations are also being executed, such as “Impulsos,” which takes place in two action fronts, one in Belém and the other in Marituba. The operation is conducted punctually on weekends and has the central objective of reinforcing security, with checkpoints for the inspection of irregular vehicles, increased patrols, and reinforcement in Civil Police units, in addition to acting in an integrated manner with the “Zero Tolerance” Operation, which focuses on the inspection of bars, restaurants, and nightclubs, aiming to verify legal operations, as well as to inhibit and curb the consumption of alcoholic beverages and illegal drugs by minors in these establishments.
The head of Segup highlights the investments in security agencies and the continuous strategic planning as one of the main points for the reduction of crime in the Metropolitan Region of the state.
“Our planning always includes actions directed towards the RMB, maintaining the inspection of establishments and patrols in central and peripheral neighborhoods. All this strategy is the result of an ostensive work by the security forces and investments in the corporations and their agents, such as the acquisition of new vehicles, weapons, and ballistic vests. We also offer training and qualification courses so that they are prepared for their daily work and can act alongside society to maintain public order and social peace, which is what we all aspire to,” concluded Ualame Machado.
