The Government of Pará certified, this Tuesday (30), about 1,500 participants of the COP 30 Volunteer Program, in a ceremony held at the auditorium of the State Court of Justice. Vice Governor Hana Ghassan led the delivery of the certificates, in a symbolic moment that marks the progress in preparation for the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change, which will be held in November 2025, in Belém.

The program is the result of a joint action between the state and federal governments, through the State Secretariat for Science, Technology and Higher, Professional and Technological Education (Sectet) and the Extraordinary Secretariat for COP 30 (Secop).

Valuing volunteering

During the ceremony, Vice Governor Hana Ghassan highlighted the fundamental role of volunteers for the success of the conference and reinforced the state's commitment to a welcoming and efficient COP.

“It is with immense joy and pride that I am here today to celebrate a historic moment. In this ceremony, we are not just handing out certificates. We are delivering trust, recognition, and above all, gratitude. You are a fundamental part of COP 30. You are the heart of this event. Stay strong, stay confident, and carry with you this purpose: more than volunteers, you are the protagonists of history,” said Hana.

Broad training and strategic preparation

In total, more than 2,300 people registered on the official program platform. Of these, about 1,500 have already completed the training, and a new group is in the final phase of training, which should raise the number of certified volunteers to over 2,000.

The course totaled 120 hours of content, covering topics such as climate change, tourism, intercultural communication, ethics, and operational guidelines for fieldwork. The training was coordinated by Sectet, focusing on qualifying participants for efficient, welcoming, and culturally respectful service.

“Our goal was to ensure that each participant was fully prepared to act during the event, contributing to the organization and success of such a relevant international conference for Pará and Brazil,” highlighted Sectet Secretary Victor Dias.

Volunteers in strategic points of Belém

The Director of Institutional Relations of Secop, Flávia Castelhano, explained that the volunteers will be distributed in areas with high foot traffic and demand for information, such as Blue and Green zones, hotel areas, tourist spots, accommodation ships, and urban mobility corridors.

“The idea is to distribute volunteers in various locations around the city, to support all participants, answer questions, and show how welcoming the people of Belém are,” explained Flávia.

Inspiring testimonials

The State Attorney of Pará, Deíla Maia, is also part of the volunteer team and highlighted the transformative role of the training. “It was a great joy and honor to volunteer. The training was essential, covering topics such as sustainability, climate change, and respect for diversity. I am sure that the hospitality will be the differential of this COP,” she stated.

For young economist Luana Queiroz, the experience represents a milestone in her professional journey.

“It is a great opportunity for learning. COP 30 will be a historic event, and being part of it is something I will carry for life.”

Legacy for the city and for Pará

The certification of volunteers is part of the set of actions of the Government of Pará aimed at COP 30, focusing on professional qualification, accessibility, hospitality, and social legacy for Belém and the Metropolitan Region. The program also reinforces the role of Pará's youth in building a global event with an Amazonian, inclusive, and participatory identity.
