The governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, and the vice president of Government Business and Corporate Sustainability at Banco do Brasil, José Ricardo Sasseron, celebrated a partnership on Tuesday, the 23rd, in New York, to promote bioeconomy projects in the state hosting COP30. The partnership aims to support the actions of the State Bioeconomy Plan of the Government of Pará, in the prioritized territories of Tocantins, Xingu, Baixo Amazonas, and Ilha do Marajó.

The agreement allows actions to stimulate and strengthen community businesses, bringing the financial system closer to the reality of traditional peoples and communities, family farmers, and bioeconomy entrepreneurs, thus promoting financial education, technical assistance, and credit offerings tailored to the needs of the target audience.

Banco do Brasil will act to promote productive chains and provides financial support through sustainable credit, primarily in indigenous, extractive, quilombola, and riverside communities, amounting to R$ 500 million, with the dissemination of credit agents in the communities. Workshops and training events for entrepreneurs will also be held through credit activation forums, in addition to the development and strengthening of entrepreneurial and innovative initiatives, connecting the strategy of the Bioeconomy and Innovation Park of the Amazon.

“Good news for the bioeconomy in the State of Pará. I am here with the vice president of Banco do Brasil, here in New York, and we have just signed an agreement between the state government and Banco do Brasil to support, strengthen, and encourage bioeconomy as a new opportunity, transforming biodiversity, the wealth of our forest into green jobs, into sustainable development,” highlighted Governor Helder Barbalho during the signing.

The head of the State Executive emphasized the importance of partnerships that strengthen bioeconomy. “This is what we have been saying. It is essential that we can establish partnerships. Partnerships that will preserve the environment with the wealth of the forest, with our biodiversity, reaching even the traditional communities. Even the small producer, who knows well the wealth of the forest and needs the incentive of support so that he can transform it into a large business that generates sustainable jobs. With this, we take care of the environment, take care of the economy, and take care of the people,” he stated.

“Banco do Brasil is very pleased to sign this agreement with the government of Pará and support bioeconomy in the state, bringing credit operations, structuring value chains with regional products, and helping to conserve the biodiversity of the forest, which is a great Brazilian asset and of the state of Pará,” said José Ricardo Sasseron, vice president of Government Business and Corporate Sustainability at Banco do Brasil.

The joint action will prioritize the territories of the Integration Regions defined in the state bioeconomy plan of the State of Pará, especially the regions of Tocantins, Xingu, Baixo Amazonas, and Ilha do Marajó.
