Helder Barbalho articulates UN support for Pará's REDD+ system and environmental policies

On this occasion, the governor highlighted the advanced process of building the system, which is in the 13th Free, Prior and Informed Consultation with traditional peoples and communities, a fundamental stage for its construction.

Governor Helder Barbalho met with the UN Assistant Secretary-General, Marcos Neto, in New York

Present at the New York Climate Week, Governor Helder Barbalho had a meeting on Wednesday (24) with the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), Marcos Athias Neto, at the Organization's office, where he articulated support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the Jurisdictional REDD+ System of Pará, which is being structured in the State to ensure that the results of deforestation reduction turn into resources to finance public policies for sustainable development.

The meeting was attended by the global leader for Carbon Market at UNDP, Letícia Guimarães, the Secretary of Environment, Climate and Sustainability of Pará, Raul Protázio Romão, the Deputy Secretary Camille Bemerguy, of Bioeconomy, and Renata Nobre, of Water and Climate.

On this occasion, the governor highlighted the advanced process of building the system, which is in the 13th Free, Prior and Informed Consultation with traditional peoples and communities, a fundamental stage for its construction. In addition, the head of the Executive highlighted advances in topics such as bioeconomy, with the inauguration of the first Bioeconomy and Innovation Park of the Amazon, in Belém, next month, as well as actions from the Native Vegetation Recovery Plan, with the launch of the first public area concession for reforestation carried out in Brazil.

“All these advances converge to this moment when we are about to start COP30, a historic event where we will have the opportunity to present the Amazon to the world and also our advances, achievements, and our next challenges,” said the governor.
