Civil Police Complex in Canaã dos Carajás enhances security and modernizes service to the population

State government investment ensured a modern structure, more comfort for employees, and agility in serving the population

In Canaã dos Carajás, the service of the Civil Police became more efficient and welcoming with the creation of the Integrated Complex, which now brings together, in one space, specialized police stations, the investigation sector, and public service. With this change, services gained more agility, organization, and better working conditions for employees. The result of this modernization can already be seen in practice: in just over seven months, the Complex has carried out more than 3,600 services.

Inaugurated by the state government, the Complex meets the growing demand of the population of over 77,000 inhabitants of the municipality and has become a reference in public security in southeastern Pará. This is an important milestone for the region, especially in light of the accelerated population growth that Canaã dos Carajás has recorded in recent years.

The new structure is part of a broad set of investments made by the current management of the Civil Police and the state government, focusing on restructuring the public security network. Highlights include the construction of new police units in strategic municipalities, as well as the creation and expansion of specialized police stations, such as the DEAMs (Women's Police Stations) and DEACAs (Police Stations for Children and Adolescents), reinforcing public policies to combat gender violence and protect childhood.

“This is an initiative that strengthens the entire public security policy in the state. In addition to providing better working conditions for our employees, the structure ensures more efficiency in serving the population and in combating violence, especially against the most vulnerable groups,” highlighted the general delegate of the Civil Police, Raimundo Benassuly.

Modern structure and humanized service
With an investment of over R$ 10 million, celebrated through an agreement between the State Government and the City Hall of Canaã dos Carajás, the Complex houses a main police station with 10 rooms, as well as offices for delegates, registries, custody rooms, a pantry, restrooms, accommodations, and cells, all designed to ensure a functional and welcoming environment.

Delegate Patrícia Brandão de Mesquita, who has been stationed in Canaã for two years, closely followed the change. For her, the new structure transformed the work dynamics and the service provided to the population.

“I worked in the old building, which already had many damages and no longer met the needs of either the team or the population. With the new Complex, we gained an adequate space, well-equipped, with air-conditioned rooms, computers, humanized reception... This facilitates our work and allows us to offer a much better service to the population,” she stated.

Currently, about 15 to 20 civil police officers work on site, including three delegates: one head, one on duty, and the delegate for women, which ensures greater coverage of services to the population, including on a 24-hour shift basis.

Specialized service for vulnerable groups
One of the main advances of the new Complex is the presence of specialized units, such as the Specialized Police Station for Women (DEAM) and the Police Station for Children and Adolescents (DEACA). Both have adequate rooms, a playroom, a psychosocial sector, and their own registries, offering humanized and specific care for victims of violence.

Lawyer Gleida Costa, who works in Canaã dos Carajás, emphasized the importance of the new space for the work of lawyers and for the population in general.

“The new structure brought accessibility, comfort, and more security for employees, for the population, and also for us, who work as lawyers. The old building was small, with few rooms, and did not adequately meet the demand. Now, the environment is modern, functional, and much more suitable,” she assessed.

Sustainability and technology
The Complex is also the first police unit in the State of Pará to use solar energy as its main source, which contributes to reducing operational costs and strengthens the environmental commitment of the state management.

In addition, the unit has an exclusive sector for fingerprint expertise, with modern infrastructure for conducting biometric exams and collecting fingerprints. This service has expedited the issuance of documents and civil and criminal identification processes in the region.

Resident Carleana Martins, who needed to be attended at the Women's Police Station, noticed the difference. “The environment became much more pleasant and organized. The reception is great, the spaces are well divided, and the service has improved a lot. Now there are separate rooms, everything well air-conditioned. It really changed for the better,” she stated.

Investment that generates results
The new Complex reflects a continuous investment policy in public security in Pará. Since 2019, more than 20 new police units have been delivered in various regions of the state, including specialized police stations for the elderly, sports fans, women, and people with disabilities.

These investments have reflected in crime rates. In August 2025, Pará recorded the best result in seven years in the reduction of violent crimes, with a decrease of over 50% in homicide, femicide, robbery followed by death, and bodily injury followed by death indicators, compared to August 2018.
