On the day the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB) turns 28 years old, celebrated this Tuesday (23), the State Traffic Department (Detran) held a day of mobilization for road safety. Continuing with the actions of the National Traffic Week, the Department began the day with educational approaches to servers and users of the agency's services. The servers arriving for work, as well as the people seeking assistance at the Department's headquarters, were approached by education agents and alerted about traffic accident prevention.

In the Detran auditorium, about 200 servers attended a lecture on traffic and sustainability, as a way to engage everyone in the dissemination of safe practices on public roads. “What we worked on today was to raise awareness among the servers about a fundamental theme of our daily lives, which is to reconcile safe traffic with sustainable practices. We reflected on how we approach sustainability in our actions, the type of vehicle we use, the mobility itself, whether it is sustainable or not, and we realized the need to work on this theme focused on traffic safety,” declared education agent Lucas Lima.

The general director, Alexandre Buchacra, accompanied the program and emphasized that traffic education should start internally, with servers and users. “It is of utmost importance that everyone contributes to this awareness process. Only with the participation of all segments can we achieve our greatest mission, which is to reduce serious accidents to preserve life,” he highlighted.

“The lecture was very enriching for me, especially because sustainability and traffic safety must be a priority for all of us, as they are fundamental to our lives,” commented server Lúcia Cardoso.

Brazilian Traffic Code

Established in 1997, the CTB was created with the aim of reducing accidents, organizing urban mobility, and ensuring the preservation of life, values that remain current and fundamental for society.

Over the years, the Code has undergone various updates, always seeking to keep pace with social, technological, and behavioral transformations in traffic. The most recent changes reinforce themes such as road safety, driver responsibility, stricter penalties for serious infractions, and the need for greater appreciation of traffic education as a tool for citizenship.

In Pará, Detran is primarily responsible for implementing and disseminating the guidelines of the CTB. The agency operates on different fronts: from monitoring state highways and integrated operations with other security agencies to the installation and revitalization of road signage and conducting educational actions in schools, businesses, and communities. The work seeks not only to punish infractions but mainly to raise public awareness about safe and responsible behaviors in daily life.

The Code also reinforces the importance of shared responsibility in traffic, a principle that guides Detran's actions. Drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists, and pedestrians are part of the same system and must act in harmony to avoid accidents and preserve lives. This vision is directly connected to international commitments made by Brazil, such as the Decade of Action for Road Safety, which aims to reduce the number of traffic deaths by at least 50% by 2030.

Celebrating another anniversary of the CTB means reaffirming the importance of its norms as a basis for a more humane, safe, and sustainable traffic. In Pará, Detran maintains its commitment to transforming this set of rules into practical actions that positively impact the lives of the population, reinforcing that safe traffic depends on everyone's collaboration.
