The State Department of Traffic (Detran) will carry out a reinforcement operation during the Sairé festivities. The event takes place in Alter do Chão, a district of Santarém, in western Pará, and usually gathers a crowd in the city. To ensure that the public arrives peacefully at the event and returns safely, Detran, through the Ciretran (Regional Traffic Circumscription) of Santarém, has set up a special inspection and organization operation on PA-457 (Everaldo Martins Highway), the main access road to the village of Alter do Chão.

The operation will involve 30 traffic agents from Santarém, Itaituba, Altamira, and Tucuruí, as well as vehicles, breathalyzers, cones, and other support equipment. The actions will be developed in partnership with state and municipal security agencies, involving fixed barriers, mobile inspections, and electronic monitoring systems (OCR).

According to the head of Inspection at Detran in Santarém, Marlon Azevedo, the focus of the actions is to preserve lives. “This task force from public security agencies, especially Detran, aims to raise awareness among drivers that inspections save lives. Our team is highly trained, equipped, and ready, as all the work we do is for the sake of life,” he emphasized.

The cultural celebration, which this year brings the theme “Cecuiara da Tradição,” includes traditional rites such as the Search for the Masts, the river procession, and the Festival of Botos, as well as regional and national musical performances.

As it is a region of beaches, streams, and resorts, inspections will be intensified with the Dry Law Operation, applying breathalyzer tests at strategic points along the highway. The expectation is to reduce traffic accidents and prevent serious, often fatal occurrences.

Detran emphasizes that the road safety operation will take place from September 18 to 22, covering the entire period of the festivities. The guidance to drivers is clear: double the attention, keep vehicle and driver documents up to date, avoid the dangerous mix of alcohol and driving, and respect signage so that the celebration can be enjoyed with tranquility and safety for all.
