Detran holds National Traffic Week with educational blitz and traffic debate
Actions, with a sustainable focus, take place from September 18 to 25 in Belém

The National Traffic Week (SNT) begins this Thursday (18), and to remind everyone of the importance of awareness for road safety, the State Traffic Department (Detran) has prepared an intense program on the public roads of Belém. Educational approaches will take place at various points in the city to remind drivers and pedestrians of the importance of obeying traffic laws.
Formally established in 1997 by the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB), the SNT arose from the need to raise public awareness about traffic safety through educational initiatives carried out by the agencies that make up the National Traffic System (SNT). The date is celebrated annually from September 18 to 25 in honor of the promulgation of the CTB, which established National Traffic Day on September 25 of that year.
In Belém, Detran's educational approaches will occur throughout the SNT. The first will take place this Thursday, 18, starting at 9 a.m., in front of the Institute of Social Security and Protection of the State of Pará (Igeprev), at Avenida Alcindo Cacela, No. 1962, between Magalhães Barata and Gentil. Drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians will receive guidance on risk factors and ways to prevent traffic accidents.
With the theme “Slow Down, Your Greatest Asset is Life!”, the guidance will mainly alert to the dangers of speeding, not wearing helmets, the combination of alcohol and driving, using a cell phone while driving, and improper overtaking.
Data from Detran in 2024 indicate 30,526 accidents in Pará, 86 fewer compared to 2023. Among the main causes are lack of attention (9,405 occurrences), irregular maneuvers (3,012 occurrences), and loss of vehicle control (2,538 occurrences).
This year, the education teams also reinforce the approaches with tips for environmental preservation on public roads, including not throwing trash from vehicles onto streets and avenues.
Debates
In addition to the educational blitz, the program for National Traffic Week also includes lectures, symposiums, and workshops aimed at promoting safer and more sustainable traffic. The debates will take place on the 18th and 19th, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the auditorium of Igeprev.
Among the topics to be addressed are a symposium on Sustainable Mobility and the role of traffic in climate change, a lecture on Detran-PA's contribution to building sustainable public roads, and a workshop on the importance of SNT agencies and civil society in improving Pnatrans (National Plan for the Reduction of Deaths and Injuries in Traffic).
In Santarém, in the Lower Amazon, National Traffic Week will also feature debates and educational actions on the main public roads of the city. The official opening in the municipality will also take place on the 18th, with approaches at the inspection barrier set up on PA-457, with the participation of all public security agencies.
