The Symphony Orchestra of Theatro da Paz honors Professor Glória Caputo
A performance with symbolic entry brings together a piano duo, children's choir, and classical compositions this Thursday (18) in Belém
The Symphony Orchestra of Theatro da Paz (OSTP) will hold a special concert on Thursday (18) at 8 PM in honor of Professor Glória Caputo, a reference in music education and dissemination in Pará. The performance, titled "OSTP and Duo Azulay: Tribute to Glória Caputo", will be conducted by the principal conductor Miguel Campos Neto and will feature the Duo Azulay, formed by pianists Adriana and Humberto Azulay, as well as the Vale Música Children's Choir.
The initiative is promoted by the Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat of Culture (Secult), in partnership with Theatro da Paz and the Pará Academy of Music (APM).

The honoree of the night, Glória Caputo, was the first superintendent of the Carlos Gomes Foundation (FCG) and the idealizer of important projects to promote classical music in the region. For conductor Miguel Campos Neto, the tribute symbolizes a homage to the legacy left by the professor in training generations of musicians. "Professor Glória Caputo deserves all kinds of honors. Her influence and vision sustained the professionalism of symphonic music in Pará," highlighted the conductor.
Repertoire celebrates music with lightness and virtuosity
The program of the night includes three works of great relevance in the symphonic repertoire:
“Carnival of the Animals” by Camille Saint-Saëns, featuring the Duo Azulay – a playful work, with short movements, aimed at all audiences, including children;
Excerpts from the children's opera “Traveler of the Amazon Legends” by Sergei Firsanov – a composer who had a strong presence in Belém and contributed to music education in Pará;
Symphony No. 5, op. 64, by Tchaikovsky – considered one of the masterpieces of the Russian composer, it is one of the most significant technical challenges for an orchestra.
According to Miguel Campos Neto, the concert aims to blend fun, sophistication, and musical excellence. "It will be a show of virtuosity, with light and engaging moments, in addition to honoring a central figure in Pará's music," he emphasized.
Soloists with a history in the OSTP
The choice of Duo Azulay for the performance also has special significance. Pianists Adriana and Humberto Azulay witnessed the emergence of the Symphony Orchestra of Theatro da Paz, which is approaching 30 years of existence. "Like me, they were musicians who saw the birth of the Orchestra. This partnership represents decades of history of classical music in Pará," Campos Neto recalled.
For Humberto Azulay, it will be a special performance. "We performed 'Carnival of the Animals' 12 years ago at Fimupa, and it is always a work very well received by the audience. The expectation is for a memorable concert on a fantastic night," said the pianist, who was part of the OSTP from 2004 to 2008.
